Shipyard lock-up

Landlubber
Hello!
I've been lurking about on your boards for some time now and am finally playing. (Had to wait for delivery) Let me say, this game is great! The community you have here is fantastic and that makes it even better.

I have only been playing a few days and have encountered a problem, but first let me tell you a story. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I installed build 12.1 without ever playing the 'regular' game. I'm fifth level and so far have spent most of my time on land. (Unitl now I've had no problems with game play at all. Great job on the build!) Although I did spend the first four hours of game play sailing around the coast in complete awe of how good it looked! I have sailed from Qxbay to Isle Marslle, skipping Redmond. (from what I have read on the boards once I talk to the govoner of Redmond I'll be at war with the French) The govoner of Isle Marslle gave me a mission to sink a pirate, so....I sailed around (trying not to get distracted by the eye candy) until I found a battle between a pirate and a French ship.

I 'zoomed' in on the fight and discovered it was FIVE pirates and FIVE French ships! I was smack in the middle of them and it was night....gah! I put up all my sails and tried to run for it. As I was dodging and weaving I realized that no one was shooting at me...hmmmm. I hung around, learining how to sail and steer, using the spy-glass, well, basically oogling the great looking ships <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Suddenly, out of the gloom looms a three masted monster with black flags! He's 10 yards away under full sail crossing my stern to starboard. I get a VERY up-close and personel look. It's huge! Five times the size of my deeply loved starter ship. He turns to port as he passes me, putting us side-by-side. I'm looking UP at his guns. But I'm not worried no one has shot at me yet....why would he now? He's got the French to worry about....right? Wrong.

He fires a full broad side. My masts go toppling into the sea, my stern catches on fire, and I swear I saw some of my men jump overboard. (or was that my imagination?) My gorgeous sailing ship is now nothing but a large row boat....

During this very brief encounter I must have been drifting to port, our ships get even closer! So, not only did he sweep everything off my decks in a single salvo, he's going to run me over! Gah! But no, I get the board icon....hmmm. What do I have to loose? I don't even know if it's possible to ROW my ship back to port...I give the order to board. And amazingly enough...

He surrenders!!! I fnd myself the new owner of a Pinnacle! Without a fight! As fast as I can I swap ships, take the crew and cargo, put up every square inch of sail that's left and run for the horizon! Yahooo!!!

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Ok, now for the problem. I can't repair my new prize. Everytime I try to repair it, the screen freezes up and the music just cycles. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> I can talk to the Yardmaster and buy new guns but the actual repair screen freezes. I sailed to another island and tried there as well. Same problem. I used the "I" command, no luck.

Any ideas on the solution for this?
Thanks in advance for your time. Sorry about rambling but DAMN was it exciting!

Hi there, Dalkain!

As it goes, this is what I would say:

I think that after you leave Oxbay, you're at war with the French anyway. Congratulations on taking a Pinnance (I think) I know I couldnt do that, especially at level 5!

The screen freezes up for me as well, but only for a few seconds. The bigger the ship, the longer the freeze, but its usually less than 10 seconds for a Man O War, the most huge ship in the game. Hmmm, do any of the colours go negative?

Yes, that freeze is a known issue, and it's usually benign. It'll eventually cycle out and go back to normal. It's the program computing, calculating, and that's the reason for the delay. It's "normal", say the programmers (not me, I'm a mere fumbler!) around here.

And <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> and WELCOME ABOARD! Have an ale! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />

Sounds like you're having fun with the game, that's great! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Thanks for the welcome!

Ah! That could be it! Maybe i just didn't give it enough time. (I hope so )
I'm at work so I can't check the name of the ship. It's a square rigged three mast with a square sail attached to the bowsprit that looks like it should block all forward visability.

As for 'taking' it, the damage had to be done by the French ships in the area. It ws just dumb luck to have drifted into it's path after it was so heavily damaged.

But in this game luck counts! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->The screen freezes up for me as well, but only for a few seconds.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

That was it! Is unlocked itself after about a minute or so. After the first time it only locked up for ten seconds or so.

And you're right, it was a Pinnance!

Good to see the bug has been fixed (kinda) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
