Should Akella break with tradition (Demo)

Ok so there i am, pondering the latest reason why not to release AOP, then i get to tthinking about demo's. Usually Akella don't make demos but i was thinking this would actually be an ideal opportunity to make a demo for AOP. Presuming that Playlogic ARE telling the truth and the game will be late, and keep in mind the wave of interest thats coming with the release of POTC2 movie and games.

Now the movies is apparently ok but the reviews for the game are really bad. If Akella had a demo for AOP a simple 200-300 meg download for everyone they would gobble that up in this new found pirate spirit. Then at the end of the demo just say it will be out in October or so. This way people will remember your game and you would have had the best exposure possible dues to everyone looking on the internet for pirate games.

If you only give people the option to buy title a from Disney or Title b from Akella with only a box cover to use as a giude they will probably go for disney (remember the bulk of sales are from noobs).

So with the next couple of month's wait for the "distributer" Akella could spend the next few weeks preparing a demo of some kind.

Thats what I reckon

i have opened similar topic in AOPCT official forum just day ago and i still waiting for mod's answer...IMHO this wont happen because their company policy by PotC experiences are why bother if they should wait for release anyway...

It would be nice to see a demo. And the bigger group of people could see and get known with the game. At least I could satisfied my want-to-know.

Cheers

It all depends on what the Marketing people at the company think, and how much weight they have.

Wharton has recently had an article where they advised that when launching a new product, a company should give the 'early adopters' a taste of what's to come.

I hope the Marketing people at Akella are up-to-date on current theory.

Marketing may want to do a demo, but Playlogic and Akella devs won't cuz of one big reason:

STARFORCE

The demo (as such) should not be protected by anything since its not the full product, however crackers use demo .exe's to crack the full version game when it comes out.

Yeah but i read that starforce can protect demo's aswell.
I read that on the starforce foum.

Not to say it worked anygood, but i remember reading it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Akella should break with tradition and start being forthright with their customers about release dates. Honestly, was anyone convinced for a moment that AoP was really going to be released at the end of June?

it wont, most probably will be in autumn(october is mentioned) so i can only say screw you Akella's distributor...
