Still Vanishing pirate ships, 'instant boarding' and 'beaming'

Hello,

I played Pirates of the Carribean with great pleasure and I am very curious about 'Age of Pirates', but there are two points about PoC wich made the game in my opinion just too easy for the player (and in some way unrealistic and dreary too).

First of all the 'instant boarding' and 'fast switch to ship xy' feature didn't just turn later sea battles into a kind of joke, because you could just 'beam' your ship around like spaceship enterprise to avoid enemy fire, furthermore you could also board a speedy corvette even with the slowest pot, so there was no reason for variety when it came to the question of choosing your ship.
Near the end of the game everyone got himself a 'man of war' and 3 heavy war ships. There was no point why you should take ANY other kind of ship.

Secondly pirate and other enemy ships were no real threat for the player because you could just switch from the sailing map to the 3d ocean and back to the sailing map again to make them vanish so in the end it was up to you, if you 'allowed' them to enter a fight, or not.

So I just wanted to know if these issues still remain because I have also heard other people complaining about this and I heard AoP woud be more realistic then PoC (at least Akella's already released russian version).

you make some very good points. in AoP you can still board and be boarded from hillarious angles regardless of the speed of the two ships if you have a few skill points in boarding. so this problem has not been adressed. i havent checked on "beaming" to other ships while beeing under fire, if you dont like it because it breaks the immersion for you, then dont do it. actually beaming is useful for the "sink/capture ship x"-missions, because otherwise you would have to sail along the shore of the island and look for it.
if you own a heavy war ship e.g. a battleship, you can still board smaller vessels for easy piastres, galleons are quite profitable. furthermore small ships surrender if you board them with a 80+ guns ship, giving you the option to enslave the enemy crew and sell them to (slave)traders.

like PotC AoP is lacking certain restrictions but if you can restrain yourself from exploiting not-so-well implemented features you can have some fun.

No offense Gray, but boarding isnt exactly working either. Check this screenshot:

How the hell can the corvette board the frigate from this angle and distance?
Anyway i wish you programmers good luck with your work.
..praying for patch 1.2..

Glad to hear that <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />. So is there a reason why you should choose a speedy but less armoured ship with small loading space like a corvette instead of a manowar, even with 'fast switching' / 'beaming' enabled?
For example your ship could always appear some distance behind the rear of fleeing ships after the 'beaming' process.
So you should have at least a ship witch is as fast as your opponent's if you want to catch and board it instead of just shooting it to little pieces or make it surrender by the pure presence of your firepower (like evil_parrot mentioned it) like you had to do with a manowar then.
