Sudden depletion of food and rum

JerseySeven

Landlubber
I've just started playing POTC for the first time (easy difficulty, realistic sail model). I have installed Build 12 full, pre_B13_base, pre_B13_21_08_06 and the BM13_beta6_update_6_9_2006.

I have a sudden problem with food and rum running out. I've only made three trips in my starting Lugger (crew of 46) so far (Oxbay to Redmond, Redmond to Greenford and Greenford to Falaise de Fleur) and in each case found that 8-10 units of rum and 10-12 units of food was adequate for about 25-29 days of sailing.

I am trying to "escort" the French ammunition ship to Redmond from Falaise de Fleur. Now I barely round the tip of the island to turn north when I get notices that I'm out of rum and several of my crew are dying from lack of food. I reloaded from an earlier save and took on as much rum and food as I had space for, and still cannot make it to Redmond without provisions running out.

Have I mistakenly pressed a key that increased the crew's rations? (I have no idea which that would be). Is the captain of the French ship somehow stealing all of my supplies?

I don't have a quartermaster officer (I haven't enough money to buy any yet). I only have Rhys Bloom as an officer.

Anyone know what might be going on here?

Thanks.

There was a bug in that version of the build where food was not calculated properly, and you ran out very fast indeed.

Either get the latest version which was just posted today, or look in file CharacterUtilitie.c around line 183 for the line that says:

if( GetRemovable(chref) )

... and change it to...

if( GetRemovable(chref) || _Goods == GOOD_WHEAT || _Goods == GOOD_RUM) // LDH 13Oct06 fix for quest ships

This will fix the quest ship food problem.

Please note: I released a new modpack update yesterday. Now it's available from my site AND the Bug Tracker. Originally the Bug Tracker pointed to another, older, modpack update, but now the most recent one is available from the Bug Tracker as well. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I was experimenting this tiresome bug when escorting merchant ships. Those bastids were eating all my foods & rum. (Why wasn't them enough intelligent to buy their own supplies? I'd prefer their own crew die of starvation due to their stupidity than mine!)
When I was talking to my officers or going in the interface, I was told I had enough food for more then 100 days even if the whole thing was disapearing in a couple of days. Maybe the officers were calculating with your own crew and the game with your crew + the merchant's one?... In all case this bug was happening only when sailing with a partener ship.

I know that I run into that bug with build 13 beta 2 or 3. So, was that bug corrected since?

yes its fixed in the latest beta(5) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Beauty mate! Many thanks.

As a note to you JerseySeven, i would add that if you are using the current betas, well in effect you are being a beta-tester. So dont get your hopes up about playing a long extended game with a possible finish just yet <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> just in case you were hoping for that. The latest, de-bugged version i would reccomend would be the stock build 12.1(full).

Of course you are missing lots of great new features in that version - but it does work very well, and is a much better game than the standard game.

Still if you are up to being a bit of a gineua-pig, and dont mind finding bugs etc than welcome to the beta versions of the game(currently beta5) <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Thanks for the warning, Black Bart.

The way I figure, POTC Build 13 beta's can't be worse than AOP!

Fair winds!

Sorry Fred Bob. There's some truth in me moniker, I was bored in New Jersey but haven't lived there for nigh unto 36 years now.

Ahh, not everyone can be so blessed as to be an Aussie! Maybe in the next go-round, eh?

All the Best,
