MORE than 40 years after the first Australian crossed to the American National Football League, former AFL star Ben Graham is ready to become the first to play in the Super Bowl.

Only a nagging groin injury stands between the former Geelong captain and history if he takes the field for the Arizona Cardinals against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the decider in Tampa Bay on February 1.

Graham's Cardinals defeated the Philadelphia Eagles to book their Super Bowl berth, denying another Australian, former Collingwood and North Melbourne player Sav Rocca, the honour of being the first Aussie in the Super Bowl.

Both Graham and Rocca are punters for their respective NFL teams.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
