Switching allegiances?

Sorry for all the questions on the forum, this must be like the 5th one.

I'm wondering how the LoM and such work. If I start out as Dutch can I go gain ranks, marry the governor's daughter, gain land etc then switch to a pirate by simply raising the flag? If I do switch to a pirate, do I keep all that I gained through Dutch service?

And vice versa, if I start out as a pirate can I still gain a LoM from a nation then proceed to go through the ranks, gain land etc with that nation, and if so do I still retain my pirate rank/title?

I would like to play as a pirate but the pirate governor will not speak to me, and other pirate towns with townhalls don't seem to have a governor so I am assuming there still is no pirate quests and the like.

I always start off as working for Portugal...as its a cheap way of getting me into ports under the Portugese flag that I would have to sneak into otherwise.

I never marry the duaghters ..just make them a mistress.

So far I have a LoM from both England and Portugal.

When I went to see the Pirate leader and asked if I could be a pirate...I got -50 from every nation and they were all either hostile or wary.

I reloaded...instead of playing it out..I always figured sooner or later to play a game starting out as a Pirate anyway.

Did you get to keep your rank/land/relationship with the daughter(s) after you switched?

Yes. in fact it was funny having the governor from England calling me by my Portugese rank. And my title was too big to fit over my name ...it was like vice admiralante captain.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

i wish you could have good reputation with pirates at the start for a change. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> it would however mess up the quests, so i think that won't work. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I compromised with myself. Playing as a nation but always flying the "NK" flag, but edited the flag into a pirate flag.

You can Raise a pirate flag any time you like ..AND you can also go to the Pirate Isle and become a Pirate. You just have to remember to use the flags because everyone want to gut you and feed you to the sharks.

forts can hurt real bad in the beginning when you have class 4 and lower ships....you end up sunk like really quick...I got sunk...was in a little boat then got sunk again...I ended up in the tavern ....most of my good stuff was gone and a bunch of loot and money ....all my officers except one and half my crew...well half a row boat or tartane crew. Then me being old and dumb forgot AGAIN to change flags....so I got sunk AGAIN .....screen change plop,,,,,,screen change,,,tavern..

Whats that Pirates name that was so dumb they hung him twice ? The English guy ? Thats me ..."Ledhed the mental"

My flag is the special olympics . It says " Lucky lucky me "
And has a drool cup under a daffy duck face.
