Talking with the governor

Shady

Landlubber
I've started to play the game and I got the whole thing more or less, however I'm having problems with entering some buildings. I can't enter the church and the governor's house (the residence/mansion).

What does it take to enter them???

Thank you for your help.

Unless, at the start of the game, you allowed the colonies to be well advanced, the churches are probably all disused. Bring up the "paper" map of the whole Caribbean, right-click on the colony you're visiting, and see if it actually has a working church.

Only the governor's residences on capital colonies are open. When you first start the game, you begin in the capital colony of the nation you chose. Nations which are hostile to you won't let you into the governor's residence even in the capital. For example, suppose you choose to be English, and it turns out England is at war with France. You'll start off in the English capital, Bridgetown, and you can enter the governor's house there - no governor's house in any other English colony will be open. The French capital is Guadeloupe, but you won't get in there because you're at war with the French, and of course the governor's houses on all other French colonies are closed anyway. And the pirate colony, Isla Mona, is a special case - you only get into the governor's house there as part of the main story.

Thank you very much.

I started as a pirate and I'm good with everyone except the pirates <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I'll try to enter the pirate residence, but is there any way to improve my relations with the pirates???

You can't, and no.

If you follow the main quest, it will become very obvious when you're supposed to enter the pirate governor's house. Until then, or if you don't follow the main quest, don't bother - the pirate governor's house is always closed.

Other nations are another matter. If England, Spain, Holland or France are your enemy and you want to make peace, there's someone in the Isla Mona tavern who will help you - for a price...
