Pirate Legend
I'm not quite sure what to make of this one, but it's been a slow couple of days for pirate news and I ran across this press release today and I thought I would share it. Iceberg Interactive and immersionFX Games, "Days of Sail: Wind over Waters", have announced a new game called The Good Life, and they refer to the game as a “Tropical Paradise Simulation.” I'm not sure exactly what that means, everyone’s version of a tropical paradise seems to be a bit different, but the press release does mention sailing and avoiding pirates, so that of course grabbed my attention.

The Good Life is set in modern times in the fictional tropical complex of the Jo Jo islands(tribute to Monkey Island?). Judging by the trailer, the graphics look pretty decent, but it doesn't appear to show any actual game play. You can find out more and see some more screen shots over at Iceberg Interactive website. The Good Life is set for release early in Q4-2012 on PC and Mac.

Haarlem, The Netherlands – 6 August 2012 – Longing for, or back to, that permanent sunny weather and that luxurious resort? Considering retiring early and moving to a tropical paradise? In The Good Life you get all that - and more. ‘ The Good Life’ is a hybrid game that combines ship simulation, time management and tycoon elements, set on a fictitious tropical island complex with luxurious hotels, villas, bars or even ancient tourist attractions - just about everything you’d expect to see in a luxury vacation destination. In ‘ The Good Life’, life is good, very good.
After collaborating on the project for over a year, Iceberg Interactive and developer immersionFX today announced that they have signed a deal to publish The Good Life early in Q4-2012 on PC and Mac. The deal includes European retail rights as well as for several territories outside Europe, and worldwide digital download rights.
" After successfully publishing ship and sail simulation games, we still found that such basic simulations needed more gaming elements in order to make them more attractive to all types of audiences", says Erik Schreuder, CEO at Iceberg Interactive. “ In immersionFX we found an ambitious developer who had the engine for a nautical simulation game, who shared that view and who were willing and able to introduce a lot of elements borrowed from other genres. We ended up creating a very interesting mix that I am sure will keep players busy for a long time. With its crisp graphics, life sim elements and sandbox design, you really feel you have started a second life, in this case: The Good Life.”

Haarlem, The Netherlands – 9 October 2012- Videogames publisher Iceberg Interactive and game development studio immersionFX announce that their Tropical Paradise Simulation ‘The Good Life’ for PC/Mac has reached goldmaster status and has entered manufacturing. The release date of The Good Life is now set on Friday the 2 nd of November 2012 across Europe and on worldwide digital portals.

To celebrate going gold, 6 brand new screenshots are revealed along with the official pack shot of The Good Life. The screenshots can be downloaded here. 2D and 3D images of the official pack shot can be downloaded here.

Iceberg CEO Erik Schreuder says: “Iceberg CEO Erik Schreuder says: “The Good Life is an intriguing mixture of genres - which will appeal to gamers of all ages. This game just brings you in the mood for sunshine. Cruising around on your yacht, diving for treasure and buying property is what most people fancy doing when they strike gold. And I am sure everyone has already forgotten their summer holidays by now - this is a chance to recapture that mood in a heartbeat.”

Manolis Tsotros of immersionFX says: “I have been a big fan of Monopoly since I was a kid, but my problem was that, no matter how much paper money I earned, I never got the sense of the wealth and lifestyle that goes with winning the game. So, in making The Good Life, that was sort of our goal at heart, to go from rags to riches, and live that luxurious lifestyle on a tropical paradise. For added depth, we included some fun and rewarding missions and adventures and now we have a huge ‘sandbox’ game, where the fun never ends.”

Dont just play, play it cool!

Iceberg Interactive? Did they change name? Ship Simulator was made by VSTEP, which is a company I actually applied to at some point in the past for an intern-ship.
Ended up going to the MAritime Research Instute Netherlands (MARIN) instead, which was a good thing if I hear stories from my classmate who DID end up at VSTEP on my suggestion.

Ship Simulator is indeed made by VSTEP, and Sail simulator was made by Stentec Software. My mistake mate, either I misread the original press release, or they had some different wording on their web page back in August. I thought for sure that is what it said on their web page. Anyway, I fixed the original article, thanks for pointing that out mate.
