Trade Missions & Mendes (12.1)

Claw

Landlubber
I'm confused about those two things. I often do trade missions to fill my purse. The strange thing about is, that with my three ships (2 corvettes and Mendes ship) I mostly get only small money (about 4000-7000). That's really small in relation to the stock game. On the other hand I sometimes get real big money (lately 160.000!), and additionally a lot of XP (enough to jump from level 12 to 14 ...). Is that a bug or just luck?

As I've said, Mendes is sailing with me. I just travelled around a little bit with him, cause I can't get to Faleur directly. (I was just at an early point of the main quest and would've been attacked by the French.) At least I came to Faleur, make a trip to Conceicao and then came back to Isla Muelle, but Mendes didn't leave my team. Cause of that, I've tried a direct trip from Isla Muelle to Faleur and back, but Mendes didn't leave again. Is that a bug oder do I make a mistake? If it's a bug, is there any possibility to come around and finish the quest?

I don't recall who Mendes is, perhaps you can refresh my memory, but in regards to the experience, alot of that has to do with the level of the opposing captain. It happens more frequently on the harder difficulty levels, but if you fight a captain that is at a significantly higher skill level, you will get alot of XP for beating him, and he is usually carrying alot of gold.

To complete the escort, you have to meet up with him at the store, both in FdF and then again back in IM.

If you are still at war with the French, you can land on a beach and walk inland to the city.
Once you meet up at the store, you leave the city the same way you went in and go back to the beach and your ship.

The amount of money and XP you get depends partly on your comerce skill, but largely on how far you go and much free space you have when you ask for the quest. Sell off Everything, then get the quest and see how much money/XP you get, particularly for trips to the other side of the sea. (Don't forget to buy some food and rum after getting the quest though)

I've made a mod that gives you a bit more XP for small trade runs (one small ship) and a lot less XP for Big trade runs. (4 class 1 ships). I thought the 70k-100k XP for the big runs was way excessive. (It's on the FTP site, but might get included in the build14alpha sometime.)

I am adding it in the Build 14 Alpha version, yes. Actually: I already added it. I just haven't released it yet.

I always start with the same amount of ammunition, food and rum, and the money/XP runs don't seem dependeble on what I have to transfer to where.

Perhaps that it is. Normally I avoid any fights on trade missions, so I can't say, if there's any special opposition.

Ah, that's it, thanks a lot.

when in the shop, you do have to talk to him to make it work. it doesn't help just seeing him.

I thought Claw would know that, as he did have to talk to Vigila to get the quest started in the first place. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

well, yes, but it could have been that he didn't. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> otherwise he would have to ask for help again instead of continuing the game.

Mendes is history, I got the point <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
