tweaking stats in the program folder

i tried to change some ship stats in the program folder. the "ship init" i tried to give the sloop more crewspace and to lower the caravel ship rank to 6. but nothing happens ingame. do it have to start a new game? or must i do something else? yes i did save the settings <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> anybody who knows what to do?

Yes, when you modify ship.init you've to start a new game.
