two things, saving at sea and long boats =D

okies this happens a lot, but here's latest example. here i am I just spend two hours sailing from redmond to isla moelle or whatever it's called. nothing happens save a lil bit of floaters and an abandoned packet and still land is nowhere in sight, so still in the redmond area, this is due to really bad wind and being in a square rigger on my navy character. so finally, sail ho, only, like what happens a lot, the game crashed to desk top with an engine.exe error during the loading screen. so those entire two hours of sailing with a 1-2 knot wind or having to tack against a 7-12 knot wind have been completely in vain. i understand that's part of any build mod that crashes do occur. what would be great though is being able to save at sea. then I can save every 10 minutes if I really feel it's nessisary and if i crash it's no big deal. If this can at all be implimented in future builds, that would be so great =)

the next thing is long boats. in a big lumbering un maneuberable square rigger warship, trying to maneuver to pick up survivers and wreckage and stuff is very very painstaking. Now in real life a big ship like that wouldn't be trying to pick up stuff like that, I mean they would if they could and just have a sailor with a hook on a pole grab it as they pass by, but normally , theyd heave to and away the long boat and the long boats would take care of that.

what would be cool is if you could dispatch a long boat from your ship, your ship would hten be stationary, and you would be commanding that row boat you sometimes find out on the sea and rescue. now this thing would have likie a top speed of 1 or 2 knots, however, it would be very maneuverable, and it 's speed would not be affected by the wind at all, if that's not possible to program, make it so that it's only very very slightly affected by wind, and can go incredibally sharp against the wind and we'll just call that them having to row againste the current.

i don't know if it's programmable or not or if anyone else would think it's cool or worth programming or not, but those are my ideas for future mods. let me know what you guys think of em =)

you could also just increase the range at which things can be piked up, i guess. i've heard that saving at sea is (at least for now) not possible to make.

well, i HAD suggested it quite some time ago. the thing is, unless you don't do it yourself, it's rather likely that no-one would do it. the modders have enough to do themselves already.

just a tip: try suggesting CHANGES to an idea that's being carried out so you can get what you want. acceptance of the idea is then much more likely to happen. if it isn't accepted, then it's probably better that it isn't, as when you would put it in-game nobody would use it as they wouldn't like it, which is proven by the fact that they didn't accept the idea in the first place. although it might not be accepted because nobody wants to put time and effort into it because it might be difficult to do, or just too time-consuming for one feature.

yeah I figured as much. Hense I was interested to see what people's reactions would be. And i didn't exactly expect anything to come of it, but I wouldn't be doing my part if I didn't share the ideas I had myself.

silence may be golden but it doesn't exactly help facilitate the exchanging of ideas <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Saving at sea: Would be awesome, but I don't think the game engine supports it. If you really want to be able to save, you must go to the worldmap. However, once you went to the worldmap, the DirectSail mode doesn't work anymore until you get to an islands. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

About the longboat: That might be possible. But like Morgan Terror says: Somebody needs to program it in. People in this community just mod what they want to mod. Sometimes they take suggestions, but usually people just do their own thing. You can either try to get someone to mod it for you (not likely to happen) or try to figure out how to do it for yourself. If you want to try for yourself, though, I recommend you start with something easier. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

jeez...i really hae to start remembering that you can save on the world map. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> well, it does leave the possibility of saving your game after you've conquered a large fleet. be warned though: if it's near midnight, you'd better wiat till the next day. otherwise you'll risk a crash when going to the worldmap.

I wonder what could cause those crashes upon loading the sea environment. Can anyone recognize a pattern, certain islands maybe? Could you check whether your system.log file contains messages about "bad rope data" ?

the only thing i know is that it happens when the game has to load the things that get registered after a day has passed at the same time that it has to load the sea.
