What difficulty?

At what difficulty are you guys playing, and what does it change to set the game to a more difficult?

I usually play on the lowest difficulty level. However, at higher difficulty, enemies get harder to kill, have better weapons, ships are harder to sink, etc. The highest difficulty is virtually unplayable. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Does the difficutly affect the rank of ships you have to fight?

I'm not sure. If you want to encounter higher rank ships, set the "notify me of ALL sightings" setting on somewhere in the options menu or by talking to a tavern-hired officer.

I usually play on the adventurer dificulty not to hard but not to easy
i find the easiest one slaughter.

I usually play at the second difficuly same reason as toddydude. The easiest difficulty is a bit to easy and i tought i would have to challenge better ships at a higher difficulty...

I start on the second hardest level sometimes, and play long enough for the game to start getting very hard.
Then I lower the setting to third hardest.
