Aiming reticle: That is part of the new cannons mod, which increases range of cannons and changes their names and a whole lot of other things I can't remember. Anyway, this mod can be completely turned off in BS.h.

1000 meter range: This can also be toggled in BS.h.

Hi, Rico. It´s good cannons shoot farther now. Real canons of those time shot really on the distance about 1000-1600 meters.
Pieter, I installed all anew and it seems so to me that this version will be better. This little stopping of the game in the course of drawing the sabre disappered. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />
 
Pieter, my landing is working now because the newest version use the distance 500 meters. It is very good as much as possible matters ït tweakable now here. Some of them I exchanged. The newest version will be probably better than I thought in the first moment. I believe Nathan changed that to make it more realistic. However, that caused the annoying bug that you noticed, so Petros suggested we turn it back to 500 and we did. So now it should work properly again.

We are certainly NOT sabotaging anything. We <i>are</i> trying to make the game better (I know I am anyway), but it's hard, complicated and most of the knowledgeable people aren't around, so we just try what we can. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />

You can increase the aiming angles by setting FIRE_ANGLE_SCALAR_W and FIRE_ANGLE_SCALAR_H to higher levels in buildSettings.h . The angles got decreased also to make things more realistic, but not everyone liked it, so a toggle was added.
