Where is Antigua?

After Hornblower proposed marriage to Maria and is accepted, I got stuck and couldn't find out what to do next. What I did next was look at the walkthrough on the wiki, which says that there is no next - that's the end of the story. :)

So I've downloaded the current latest version of Beta 3.2 WIP (29th April), done a total re-install to make sure the game isn't corrupt in any way, and am now redoing "Chronicles of Horatio Hornblower" with the specific aim of bug-hunting.

First catch of the day isn't really a bug, but it is an error of sorts. The first place Hornblower goes is the Naval Academy on Antigua. The next place he goes is the Naval HQ on the same island, where Lord Hew Dalrymple comments that since Hornblower is a good navigator, he'll have noticed that Antigua is in the south. Hornblower agrees. And I sit wondering what they're talking about because last time I looked, Antigua is in the north-east. (Perhaps they're using an out of date map. As I recall, Antigua is in the south in Build 13. :))

There's some similar weirdness in "Tales of a Sea Hawk". You're at Barbados lighthouse, you set off to San Juan in pursuit of Danielle, then you fall overboard during a storm and end up on Bonaire. Either the navigator is Lord Hew Dalrymple or Hawk is an awesome swimmer because Bonaire is the wrong direction for a ship heading north-northwest to San Juan. :) (It made more sense in the stock game, in which Douwesen is mid-way between Oxbay and Isla Muelle.)

In this case - the map have been changed, but dialogs remained as if it was happening on stock PotC. The adaptation would probably require a bit more editing of quest, not only dialogs.

Yes, I know why Hawk has such a marathon swim - it would be difficult to relocate either Danielle or the beach where Hawk ends up.

Then again, perhaps not. A few dialogue changes would make it more consistent without needing to change the plot much and without needing to change any actual game locations. Hawk needs to think that Danielle was headed first for Aruba before continuing on to San Juan, so Hawk first wants to go there. A journey from Barbados to Aruba would put the ship within reach of Bonaire. (Curacao would also work as an intermediate destination for Danielle.) Having then washed ashore and been delayed, Hawk realises there's no point going to the first destination and his best chance to catch Danielle is now on San Juan. He's back on course and so is the plot.

While I did change a couple of dialogs I found when we redid the worldmap, I am very willing to believe there are many more of those instances to be found.

If you run across them, please post a screenshot of the relevant dialog, along with your suggested changes.
This should be easily fixed once we know where exactly to look in the files. :doff

First time through, I found there were quite a few dialogs which are in dire need of proof-reading.

Now I've found the dialog files. They are just plain text, yes? They can be edited with Wordpad, for example? If so, I'm going to do the proof-reading. :D

Screenshots won't be necessary because I can just copy the text. So, for example, from "Sir Hew Dalrymple_dialog.h":
Original: "Hmmm.. Well, I am given to understand that navigation is one of your particular strong points. And if that is so, you will have realised that we are at the southern-most point of the archipelago."
Suggested: "Hmmm.. Well, I am given to understand that navigation is one of your particular strong points. And if that is so, you will have realised that we are at the north-east point of the archipelago."

Yes, they are. Easiest modding ever. :cheeky

Even better would be if you make your changes, then upload your modified files themselves.
Then I can just pop them into the next update and be done with it. :woot

Here's Sir Hew Dalrymple now he know where Antigua really is, and also knows that "the enemies spies" should really be "the enemy's spies". ;)

More to follow as I find them...

Strange. I just downloaded it, extracted it and read it without any trouble.

Here it is, this time without the ".h" extension in case ".h.7z" causes trouble for your version of 7zip. The .7z file should be 1802 bytes, the extracted version should be 3278 bytes.

Good, because I'm going through the rest of the files and will post the lot when I've finished. Mostly minor spelling or punctuation errors, and one more factual error. Uriah Quelp says he's going to escort you to Isla Mona when you've already been told you're going to Cayman. Quelp is responsible for some naughtiness during the story but I don't think that's supposed to be part of it. :D

Among the "Dialog.h" files there's "Rifleman Baker_Dialog.c". It's a slightly smaller, older version than the similarly named file which is with the rest of the "Dialog.c" files and I suspect someone put it in the wrong place. Is Rifleman Baker supposed to say anything, and if so, do you have a "Rifleman Baker_Dialog.h" file for him?

Good catch! He actually uses "Rifleman Harris_dialog.c", so both his dialog files go unused and can be deleted.
