u also need a high luck skill i think. havnt done this one since ive installed the new mod, whats the reward again?

the reward is either neutral relations with france when you're hostile with them, or a free letter of marque for france if you're not. you need to win 20 or so games in the tavern and talk to the guy you beat after that.

yes, it works. it's only dependant on the amount of people you beat, not your luck.
