I'm a newb and just bought this game.. WHAT A JEWEL! I'm a sim fan and usually play Subcommand, SHII, IL2 sturmovick, Lock on etc, Call of duty etc. I just can't believe the awesome graphics in ths game, the ocean is just unreal.

Just a couple of questions: Why isn't this game multiplayer?!!! I just can't believe it isn't!... Just take the same game and slap a multiplayer engine to it.. and a mission editor, instead of going ashore they should just have a buy and sell screen for ships and goods at ports. You should be able to go into the captains cabin and go on the lower decks. Give us huge maps and a mission editor like Subcommand. Keep the models and eviroment the way it is. You could also be able to hear orders being shouted to the crew! "Beat to quarters"!.

I'm a hardcore gamer and I haven't been excited about a game like this one for a long time. I do think the Name killed it though, I figured it was a cheap and cheezy Disney pirate game. Its should have been called Privateer or Bucaneer or something. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I'd really like to see bigger maps so you could sail from portsmouth around the channel or actually be able to go from port to port in realtime. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

Another question: How do I change my loadout for my cannons? I see a bomb Icon next to the wind compass thing.. I want to use grapeshot etc.

Thanx!

but a game isn't necessarily better just because it's multiplayer! and to 'slap a multiplayer engine' on would definitely make it worse. it would have to be especially designed and `thought-out`. i don't think it'd be possible to make potc multiplayer anyway, though.

keys `1-4` <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> or you can do it by pressing enter and going through the menus.

Hey CF, one of the issues surrounding this game is that it was released well before it was intended to be released. Initially it was going to be "Sea Dogs 2", a sequel to a legendary game from the past. The thing is, Disney was about to release their movie "Pirates of the Caribbean" and saw this as a good opportunity. So they bought up the game, had it renamed, and forced it to be released prematurely to coincide with the movie release. Supposedly a lot of features planned for the game never made it in, since time was cut short, and maybe multiplayer was one of them.

If the concept of multiplayer PotC really intrigues you, check out "Pirates of the Burning Sea", a mass multiplayer online only game (not yet released but due near the end of the year I think). The ship battles and so on are similar, but I believe far superior to PotC. The only thing you will be missing at first is the whole walking around deal. At first the game is going to be focusing on ship travels/trade/battles etc, and when you dock at ports you'll just handle land issues via a menu system (sort of like Port Royale I expect). They are already planning an update where you'll have a character that can go running around getting into bar brawls and look for buried treasure and all that, but that's a while off yet. Anyway, the link for the game, if you're interested, is:

And if you have any questions concerning the game, check out this link, they pretty much cover anything you could ask:

Welcome!

You might also want to check out Age of Sail II: Privateer's Bounty, which while also made by Akella (who made POTC) is a simulation and has multiplayer.

ISTR that SD2 was originally going to be multiplayer, but Akella axed that _well_ before the whole Disney thing.

Regarding ammunition. If you have unmodded POTC, the only to change this is to hit ENTER while sailing, use the arrow to scroll over to ammunition/cannon loading/whatever it's called and hit enter, and then choose the ammo type and hit enter.

If you have any mod that has ALexusB's reload keys (any build, for example, has them), you can just hit `1-4`, for ball/grape/chain/bomb.

Thanx Guys! I'm a huge sea sim fan and just love this game. I've checked out the Akelle site and see that they have a swashbucklers coming out soon... It looks great. You know, these games need more exposure. I bought this game as kind of a joke and couldn't believe how good it was.

The Pirate thing is OK but what I find really exciting is the idea of recreating famous naval engagements, such as the Battle of Trafalgar etc. I've kind of cheated and I have Danielle as my character with an English frigate.. her stats are unchanged but, I just wanted to get into privateering under the English flag... all she needs is an English captains uniform now..lol.. Her ship is the Auburn Maiden.. fun fun fun...

I'd like to see larger maps as I've said before.. is there a way to Mod them?
It would be great to sail for port to port in real time. or even make your own missions?

Oh by the way.... How the heck do I hire captains?
