new quest idea needing help fleshing it out

as title says i have a idea for a new story line with a few quests roughly outlined,wanting to know if anyone would be willing to help me atleast get the story fleshed out more.any help would be welcome.i been wanting to help with the build
for awhile now just didn't have any good ideas.not sure if this new story is good either but i'm willing to try.the story is of a american acting as a spy in the british port of port royal.i'll show the few lines i have written to anyone willing to help.thanks in advanced.
 
What I suggest is look at the quest writing tutorial for Build Alpha 9's ;)

The main thing is trial and error, look at things that are similar to what you want to achieve and then see if you can get that working for you. I also suggest you start off with maybe changing a current sidequests locations just to get you familiar with the code before you move onto your bigger job ;)

Just post here if your having some problems and we will try to help you and GOOD LUCK :cheeky

Ok thank you.I've been reading the quest making tutorial and trying to read the storyline programs.i'll do as you suggested and change one of the side quests 1st.this is my 1st try at doing something creative so hope i do ok.thanks for the reply and thanks for wishing me good luck,i need it lol.
 
I like the idea of a quest involving the Americans; we've got the nation added now,
but nothing is done with them yet storyline-wise. If you post here if you need help,
you can be sure to get it. So sooner or later, you'll manage what you want. :doff

yeah that's one reason i decided to make the hero an american.right now i have like a quarter or so of 1 quest line written down.i'm wanting to eventually make it as big and long as the standard and jack sparrow story lines.
course it's gonna take me a while to get everything done.and at some point i'd like to make a new ship just for the story line.
right now i'm using a american lydia as his ship,btw if anyone could help me with names i'd appreciate it.i'm terriable at naming things lol.before i forget i'd like to mention i'm liking the la croix story line.just i've noticed a bug in the quest log.like once you complete the 1st deal and do side missions they appear blank in the qb and you can't click on anything.

not sure if you know bout it but thought i'd mention just incase.thanks for the mod and help.
 
There's some other good American ships you could use, such as the Constitution and the Enterprise.
They're already in the game and it'd be great if somebody'd make proper use of them. :cheeky

I noticed that the required questbook files for the random quests were missing from the LaCroix storyline.
You can fix it by taking the convoy.txt, hunting.txt, trade.txt and treasure.txt
from any of the other storylines and putting them in RESOURCE\INI\TEXTS\ENGLISH\Storyline\LaCroix\QUESTBOOK . :doff
 
ok i decided to use the Constitution.i like big ships lol.course i have it planned for him to loose it early on and get a smaller ship at 1st.

and i have the .txt file almost ready for starting the quest.and i have the quest logs fixed in the LaCroix story line.

i'll test later,another bug i noticed in that game is once i get out of cuba i can't continue or find port au prince anywhere.

not sure if the next bit is properly added yet but i can't start it for now.i still need to think of more story before i go much further with the hard part.

i'm hoping to have this done for alpha 11 if i'm lucky,sooner be better but doubt i have any ready for alpha 10.thanks for the suggestions and if ya have time i'd like to discuss it more with you peter or anyone who has a idea for a american quest line.
 
Port au Prince is named "Hôpital" in the Spanish Main period. It's a pirate town then.

Not being American, I don't have many American-specific ideas.
You might want to have a look at posts by Commodore John Paul Jones for ideas.
 
just got through reading the usa mod post.some interesting ideas there.non fit with the story i have thought of but i could see bout doing something along those lines.i just want to do something that'd be fun to play and something that'd add to this great build of your's.thanks for the help and suggestions.

You have written down your idea for the storyline (that is excellent if you have) I forgot to do this once and forgot some details of what I was going to do and had to rewrite it :modding xD:
 
For the La Croix line, go to Hopital and then to the 'castle'/governors mansion inside it. There you should find another Cavalier Type guy.

thank you i had finnaly figured that out i think lol.and i do have my idea written down.i think i have enough to start coding
just have to figure out how to start.sure i'll figure it out,question though,do i only have to worry bout the questbook files and the storyline folder stuff or are there other files i need to make/change for my storyline?
 
If you keep things simple, you only need to make your storyline and questbook files and nothing else.
You can add characters, items, locations, dialogs and quest cases all in your storyline folder.

ok thank you.how simple is giving the main guy a ship having him loose it then a port battle then getting his ship back and capturing a town? lol,i'm kinda ambitous but i can scale back if needed at 1st.
 
not that hard I think. Depends on how you want him to lose and capture it :p It sounds like a lot of fights, which is easier to code in than dialogs that link each other ;)

new storyline for potc build mod 14 alpha 10
american spy in brittish port of port royal,current gofer for govner.capt of a medium sized vessel.
story starts after govner request the gofer to escort a important ship from nevis island to antigua naval base to be refitted.

as aid to the govner our hero has unlimted access to antigua long as he has the right papers.
in antigua while talking with a few of the soldiers one of the govners other aids comes up to our hero and aressets our hero for being a spy.

In route to jamica our hero manges to break free of the brig of the small cutter he's being transported on.with the help of a few members of the crew who want to join him.
he takes command of the ship and heads to a friendly port.tells govner what happened and that the ship he was escorting must be stopped.

The govner agrees to help but can only aid him with 1 capt at the moment.capt of a snow.thier 1st step is to find out where the ship is now.

so they decide to sail to port royal and sneak into the govner mansion and find out what they can.they learn the ship is headed right now as part of a fleet

to take control of the friendly port.they race back to warn the port bout the impending attack.
they also learned the hero's ship is part of the fleet captined by the aid who found him out.the hero decides now would be a good time to get his revenge

and get his ship back.after a long battle and near defeat the port manages to turn back the brits and our hero gets his ship back.he decides to keep

the aid alive to use as leverage against the govner of port royal.the govner of the freindly port sees this as a good time to add insult to injury

for the brittish and commands our hero and his friend to capture the brittish port of bridge town.unfortuntly the govner can only offer

a frigete to the capt of the snow with a few soldiers as crew since most ships were heavly damnaged in the attack.



sorry bout the spelling,i've never been very good at spelling so i make lots of mistakes.hopefully that's easier to read.

May I suggest one thing though.
Try to use punctuation. This is very very annoying to read. I stopped halfway, not of the story, but all the cluttered text makes it hard to read. :shrug

sorry bout that,i have it written in notepad++ so it's much easier to read,i'll edit the post some to make it easier to read.
 
ok,i'm semi starting to get things going i have c file ready so far,but that seems to be the easiest thing i have ahead of me.

not sure how long this will take me as i been realy getting into the horatio hornblower storyline lol.

but mabye if lucky i'll have it ready for alpha 11.that's my goal any ways,love if i could get it ready for alpha 10 but i know i wont.and any feedback on what i have written would be welcome.i'd like to make a story line people want to play.
