hi i know that it would be stupid to ask such a question but i started playing this game as a merchant and i ve been playing it for a while now ive become admirable to French nation and i have a hero rep. but i cant start the fernch quest line after reading some of the posts in the forum i found that i need to have some letter so i would be pleased if anyone told me where to get or how to get this letter and if u plz also i dont know how to get titles so these are 2 question i would love if someone answered them thanks lot

You need a letter of marque.

You can buy one in a tavern at a pirate port. Just keep talking to the people until someone wants to talk about "pirate licenses" and "trade licenses". I think I paid about 150k for the last one I bought but the price is highly variable.

Ok, now each nation has two types of governors. The regular kind at each port, and a Governor General. If you want to get a letter of marque without paying, pick any one French governor and do missions for him (and ONLY him) until you get it.

Once you do, then you can do the missions for the Governor General. He is at the "Capitol" port for each nation, which in Frances case is Forte de France (I think).

As you do the Governor General missions, you will achieve new ranks. You'll get the first level rank "privateer" upon obtaining your letter of marque.

I think the France capital is Tortuga (I thought that was where the GG was :shrug)

In any case just search French towns for the GG and it would be best to start at Tortuga or Forte de France :yes

it is tortuga, but you can always ask any governor where the GG is and he will tell you that the GG is in 'such-and-such' city.

i believe that the amount the patent costs is dependant upon the difficulty settings or character level. the last one i asked about was on captain difficulty, and nearly level 35, was nearly 400,000 piasters. i thought this to be too much to pay for something i can earn (even though $$$ seems to be nearly inconsequential) and that i have a tendancy to lose by being side-tracked and pouncing on a same-nation ship, usually by trying to complete the bluebird quest.

the diplomat is always sitting at the table next to the bar in any pirate tavern.
