Discussion Sea dogs --- ages of pirates???? chronology confused

So here we go i know this has been discussed to death lately why? this is why

• Sea Dogs To each his own - Jolly Roger ( ???? 2017 - whats new?) - You played At Charles De Maure.... Okay Sea Dogs 1?
• Sea Dogs I (November 24, 2000 / Bethesda Softworks Published Games)- Nicholas Okay but where is the first game?
• Sea Dogs II - City of abandoned Ship (May 12, 2009)- Play As Everyone including POTC spin off title .. alright what the hell so where is the first game dammit!
• Sea Dogs: Caribbean Tales (September 12, 2006)- When i do a little bit research turns out the 2006 is the real sea dogs 1 and not the sea dogs to each his own.
• Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales (May 12, 2009) - This is Considered The first Age of pirates 1 not the 2006version that game is broken beyond believe.
• Age of pirates I (12 September 2006) - First Entry You play As Nicholas that's it, just one character?!
• Age Pirates II May 26, 2009 - A broken Masterpiece yet The Real Sequel to the first AOP CT series.
• Pirates of the Caribbean (June 30, 2003) - Movie Based Game Not from 2009.

it's like street fighter 2 all over again like really do we need this mess, if the game has two different titles make one labeled expansion pack dammit!. for some reason "expansion pack" end label is gone and everyone call ti dlc now. why consistency on titling a game is gone now, if you born in an age where every game company labeled their games properly then you going to have a huge problem.

To know which is which from example Sea Dogs I to each his own and Sea Dogs 1 is actually same game but different version, Sea dogs To each his own have it's own have DLC and have a new character to start with while Sea Dogs 1 is the first game and have no DLC. Sea dogs 2 and Age of Pirates 2 okay what the hell?!! why different titling Couldn't they make a same title other then call it Age of Pirates II well to summarize all this confusion when i first bought Age of pirates II CD it was the original released from 2009 that have retail patch and not the updated version so we all left with retail product. years later Gog announced DRM free on Sea Dogs II and that just immediatly pissed me off, in all seriousness tho GOG version is the updated version. seriously we stuck playing the original version with starforce drm bs that forced the player to Use the cd everytime they wanted to play.

Don't get me started with the first Sea Dogs so let's start the chronology confused title for the first game,
so we got To Each his own and CaribbeanTales. Which is which really again to summarize all this confused i claimed honestly To each his own Is the Real First while Caribean Tales is the Expanded story from the first one. so if why i didn't cover pirates of the caribean Movie based game by akella?, all it was really is a reskin marketing gimmick to promote pirates of the carribean Curse of the black pearl and not Carribean tales. nothing really new on that one.

What is it that you want, @captnt? I can barely make any sense of your post.

For one thing, both the original Sea Dogs and Pirates of the Caribbean ARE in the series, whether you like it or not.
Sea Dogs runs on the very first version of the Storm 1 engine. The Storm 2 engine (which I assume is a complete rebuild of Storm 1) was developed for Sea Dogs 2.
Of course this ended up being hyjacked by Disney, then rushed and released as Pirates of the Caribbean.
As you probably are aware, no Storm 3 (e.g. another complete rebuild) was ever made.
As a consequence, all subsequent games in the series stand on the shoulders of the work done by Akella on Pirates of the Caribbean.

As far as I am aware, Age of Pirates/Sea Dogs: Caribbean Tales was the final game to be developed by the original game developers at Akella.
Everything that came afterwards have been commercial releases of what started out as Russian mods.
That makes the background of these commercial games very similar to the free PotC: New Horizons, which is also a mod that built on the original Storm 2 engine.

Why this obsession with "what is better" anyway? And with such a limited view you are now applying?
What difference does it make? Let people decide for themselves what they like better.
It is all 100% down to personal preference anyway. No correct answer exists.

My guess is that @captnt is confused or annoyed about the fact that there are two different sets of titles for the same series of games, "Sea Dogs" and "Age of Pirates". But I've never heard of a few of the games in that list. The ones I recognise are:
"Sea Dogs" (2000) - the original one.
"Sea Dogs 2", alias "Pirates of the Caribbean" (2003) - renamed after the film tie-in, though the original game had little in common with the film other than a ship named Black Pearl with a crew of undead skeletons. Your character, and the way you defeat the Pearl, were nothing like the film.
"Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales" (2006) - you now had a choice of characters, Blaze or Beatrice Devlin. The name change, according to Wikipedia, was for legal reasons - game company Akella wanted full control over the title, but "Sea Dogs" belonged to publisher Bethesda.
"Age of Pirates 2: City of Abandoned Ships" (2009) - wider choice of characters than "Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales", and more quests.
"Sea Dogs: To Each His Own" (2017) - as far as I can tell, this started out as a Russian-only mod of "City of Abandoned Ships", subsequently converted to an English version. You can read more about it right here.

i don't really know about the engine tho, i was chronologically confused when i made this post. when game company have mixture of titles... it doesn't make any sense really, i mean when i made this post i was merely talking about the title and yeah your post pretty much explain when it comes to storm engine on newer series.

Oh, I definitely agree with you that it makes no sense whatsoever!
But I do think I know pretty much exactly how it all developed and it is very complicated indeed.
Why bother trying to wrap your head around that when you could spend your time enjoying your favourite game(s) instead?

This is a same case where game company back in 1998 has habbit updating same game over and over, up until III it didn't get release on home consoles... since it released on Arcade, what i found how you said Horizon is still using Storm 2 engine, i use Street fighter common sense is because we play the same copy over and over with slight changes.

so Age of pirates 2 is actually a mod?, man russian modders dude they released entire game on same engine .... ... now i'm more confused. in the end with all this confusion i agree one thing it's the most awesome game ever existed, like there's no other game like this as close as we can have 2nd best was sid meiers pirates. i cant wait for horizon honestly, i just hope horizon team does not make a huge mess on tittling i could just wish one thing a consistent titling that's all. i have long arguement with my brother about this he thought the same way too why the same title? .

The PotC:NH mod indeed runs on Storm 2.0 .
Unfortunately it seems that nobody on the planet has the source code for it anymore.
Doesn't stop us from improving on the contents anyway.

But for now, the name "New Horizons Remastered" suits its purpose just fine.

Of course this does generate some potential confusion between the names PotC:NH (=PotC Build Mod version 14) and NHR (=standalone game developed on the Unity engine).
If you have any clever ideas on how to deal with that, I myself would at least be interested to hear them.

Fanboy detected! I'm glad you have found a game you enjoy that much.
I wouldn't have a clue what game I would consider "the most awesome ever".
There have been a lot I liked over the years and a lot I'd like to (re)play if given the time.

That title is unlikely to change again, or we'll confuse people even more.
