    HMS Ajax

Indeed take your time. Anything you do would be far better than my attempts. I am clueless when it comes to graphics. Please keep up the good work. Greg.

Paradox looing for Closed Beta Testers

Just logged into the Paradox Board. They are looking for Closed Beta Testers for "Commander : Conquest of the Americas". enjoy, Greg.

    HMS Ajax

Those look pretty good. On ships that were built with beakhead bulkheads the side of the ship flared out at the bulkhead so that the deck was wider than the hull. This extra width helped support the catheads and squared off the foredeck. The deck in front of the beakhead bulkhead was lower...

    The Sea Wolf (Brig)

The name of the rope in that location is called a "bobstay". The bobstay is used on small sailing boats to keep the bowsprit down against the stem. It carries the load of the forestay to the keel. On sailing ships such as these this function is performed by the Gammoning. By the late 1700s...

    HMS Ajax

In english they are the head rails. They were primarily a place to sit while relieving one self. Sorry don't have any ideas on how to create them.

    The Sea Wolf (Brig)

I believe the third sail up would be "top gallent sail" pronounced "t'gant'sl". The next yard up from there would be the Royal. Royals were fairly uncommon in the middle 1700's. I think the Arabella looks great with three sails on the fore & main. Enjoy, Greg.

Hannah - one of the first ships of the US navy

I have to agree with Peter. Still looks nice though. The use of the white bands at the gun ports did not come until about the 1800's. Previous to that ships were painted with linseed oil as a protection. As the ships got older the wood darkened, thus giving away the ships age. Older ships...

Release Date Set for July 30th.

It is a bit of a bummer about not making more of a Sim. Hopefully Nitro will prove us wrong. Back to playing COAS but that spinning about and firing all the cannon gets a bit hokey after a while. I found this on the Paradox message board. They appear to be some new screen shots that are...

    game crash after saving

Up until yesterday I never understood what this thread was talking about. I used to save often because the game would put me in situations I could not fight or flee my way out of. The game rarely crashed. But yesterday I finally got a new monitor. One of those widescreen LCD types...

Release Date Set for July 30th.

Well the web site states the release date is 30 July. I assume this means 2010. Sadly this looks like a clone of EIC with a different map. It is suppose to have a more in-depth trading model, but I am guessing the sailing side of the game did not change much. :urgh

    Stealth mission/enemy town

I thought all you had to do to sneak into an enemy city was sail to a nearby beach then enter the city at night, go to the tavern and sleep till morning, do what you need to in town, then leave and walk back to your ship. To complete the mission do you need to load something on the ship from...

    Usefull links

Indeed Very nice. Hopefully they will augment the display to show more about sail handling. The gun drill is interesting, but maybe a little misleading. A little more attention to detail would have been nice. Did not think the guns came that far inboard, no breaching ropes and I had always...

    Minimum crew on captured ship

I play the stock game, and was able to capture 3 ships last evening without assigning a crew. When I got to the nearest port they were all still with me. Note I never touched the transfer crew button. Previously I have also taken crew that was just assigned to a captured ship, by pulling...

Jack Aubrey's first own ship, the HMS Sophie

She does look sweet. But, technically, I believe the rig depicted on the book cover is called artistic license. It did not exist as shown in the real world. British naval brigs were not originally rigged with a Main Course. Meaning a sail rigged from the lowest yard of the Main Mast...

    HMS Surprise

The ship pictured is the Rose. She was purchase from the HMS Rose foundation to make the movie. The Rose is a 24 gun frigate. She is located at the San Diego Maritime Museum. The Rose is a reconstruction of the HMS Rose that was originally built in 1756/1757. The original HMS Rose joined...

    New EIC game announced.

I know not that many people here are happy with this game for various reasons. Frankly, my interest in the game was specifically for real time combat. Though I was hoping for more of a true simulator. I think the effort was commendable and good starting point. The new game is called...
