What's the point of paying off a bounty?

    Much obliged. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cat" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

    A few questions

I've always gone with the Rapier. I have a hard time telling for sure, but I seem to get the fastest response to my moves with that one, and I can't seem to shake much benefit out of "defense" with the cutlass. Best defense is a good offense. Never lost a tavern duel, so I couldn't say...

Sneaking into town- easily the worst part of the game

I can see what they were going for, and it coulda been sweet, but this part of the game is @#$! annoying, and dull to boot. They should have either worked on it longer, or dumped it over the side. It looks very sweet, it's just that there's no GAME to this particular mini game. C'mon, I'm...

What's the point of paying off a bounty?

I racked up an 82,000 bounty picking on Spain. Then, when I'd made Duke with all three of the other powers, I thought maybe I'd switch sides or something, just to see if I could max out rank with all four powers. Trouble is, paying off the bounty doesn't seem to be anything but a waste of...

This is Great- if Sid would just do the same for `X-Com`...

Sure I know `X-Com`'s not a Sid game. But like I said, I read somewhere a few months back that he was investigating maybe buying and redoing several loved old classics, and `X-Com` was one of them. Laser squad is just head to head, too, right? No story, no AI, no single player. I hear...

This is Great- if Sid would just do the same for `X-Com`...

I know of two such projects, Project Xenocide and UFO Alien Invasion. I've got them bookmarked, and my hat's off to anyone who wants to tackle a project like that. But there's a REASON why it takes years and costs buckets of money to do up a real four star game. I wish 'em all the best...

Two dueling questions, and a dancing grumble

First, a lot of my opponents seem to be able to do this "jump back on the sword hand/forward flip"move that not only avoids my strike, but inevitably tags me when then bounce back up like a `jack-in`-`the-box`. Ducking (#2) seems to work, but not reliably. Anyone know the proper counter to...

This is Great- if Sid would just do the same for `X-Com`...

That's exactly my point, Otaku- with SMP, they did some tweaking here and there. For example, the land battle is much improved, and the pirate and other smaller settlements add a lot to the old game. But basically, they gave it a huge tech upgrade, but LEFT THE GAME DYNAMICS ALONE. They...

This is Great- if Sid would just do the same for `X-Com`...

I've been having a blast with SMP, partly nostalgia, and partly enjoyment over the new look and new features. I read the "Sid, What did you do?" thread with interest. I agree that it looks a little "Disneyfied", but overall, I don't share the complaints. I'm GLAD they didn't mess with...
