wouldn't it be cool if we could add reefs and shallows into the game where only shallow draft vessels could go? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

those already excist. there's one in the antigua passage (blasted thing. sunk my manowar once), and quite a few others near the costs of the other islands. one very sneaky one is at a beach on one of the corners of hispaniola. you can land there, but only from a distance.

so if I'm in a sloop and I'm getting chased by a frigate or "corvette", there are some parts near the shore that I can hide so that the bigger ship can't get me? Man, I guess I just need to explore around the islands more. I wonder if brigs can sail over these areas. That would be cool.

well, that part near hispaniola wrecked my bermuda-sloop, i only noticed it when i had nearly sunk already. i wondered what all that creaking and groaning was. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> what you could do however is sail between those cliffs near the islands, such as those near conceciao harbor or quebradas costillas. two sneaky pirate yachts escaped my lineship that way once. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" /> they sailed through the reefs and behind the big rock near the port, completely evading me. i used the same tactic against them earlier that game when I had a yacht. pretty handy, but it sure takes some nerve. you could try escaping through the falaise de fleur passage when you've got a big ship on your tail. brigs and fleuts (the latter because they're so narrow) only just squeeze through, but anything bigger can't. i soon found that out with my pirate corvette. my hull fitted through, but my masts didn't. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

by the way, you CAN wiggle through the antigua passage with a manowar. it's just the trick of avoiding that nasty rock near the entrance. it's just below the waterline.

well there should be some shallows and reefs that shallow draft vessels can safely sail over that deeper draft vessels can't, but of course I don't know how possible this would be.

And one daring pirate has tried to get away from me on the rocks by conceciao, but I had a small enough ship to get him. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />
