I wuz playing beta 2.3 in an early period, just cruising around enjoying meself, but recently got back in harness and started playing the Hawk storyline. There are some differences.

1. Has the melee difficulty been worked on? I'm not dying constantly like I have been for over a year. In fact it seems like old times again. :cheers

2. Has anyone played with the Blunderbuss? I wuz giving some officers different guns just to see which one they preferred. All of my gunners with good gunnery skills like the blunderbuss best. The ones with low gunnery skills prefer the big pistols. So now we are all packing the scattergun. I wonder if this has anything to do with my lifespan now?

3. Both the musket and musketoon misfire at least 90% of the time. This makes them useless.

3. Why are most of the smilies gone?

1. As always, I don't think any changes have been made to the melee difficulty recently.
2. Haven't acquired one in my testing yet. Are you suggesting it's too powerful?
3. That's not a question... but is a very good point. Not sure how to improve their chances of firing correctly, though.
3 (err, 4?). Some of the smilies were stored on the FTP. Keith has confirmed that the hosting subscription has run out.

1. Hmm. I changed the sword attack & block buttons from the keyboard to the mouse. Maybe this is helping.

2. The blunderbuss doesn't seem too powerful. It won't kill anyone but will weaken them. I'm just curious as to why the best shooters prefer it to the harder hitting handguns.

Miss the smilies.....:(

2. i dont know wwhy they choose blunderbuss but there is a point: it has AREA ATTACK so even you or your crew can be hit near enemies ! thats really dangerous to give it to your men, or just stay away with your men and just fire :) ^^

it is not powerful, nothing in my view at the moment in the mod is over powered

1. Every time I have gone on Bart O Port's side quest I have had to leave my officers aboard ship and spent all my time on Cuba running around trying to stay alive while Bart O Port does all of the fighting. Not this time! I just finished it and none of my officers came close to dying and I felt like Superman! Didn't die even once. Something has had to have been changed somewhere.

2. It seems that different officers "need" a certain gun. The officers that prefer the blunderbuss get misfires with other guns. I also have one officer who kept getting misfires with the large pistol set, but has had no misfires with the quad barrel pistol. Each one seems to be different.

1. Nope, melee hasn't been touched. But then it wasn't touched to break it in the first place either. Most mystifying....

3. Should be able to change the misfire chances in initItems.c

A misfire means the gun is used but it just clicks and no shot is fired and no ammunition is used.
Actually, I have been using the musketoon and it was working perfectly up until last night when it started misfiring on me. I switched to the blunderbuss for a bit, and it worked fine, then tried the musketoon again and it started firing. I also noticed that the soldiers were having misfires too. Another thing was that the trick of drawing your sword and then sheathing it did not cause the soldiers to carry their muskets properly on their shoulders, but instead they stayed down on their hips. Perhaps one just needs to periodically change weapons, like one needs to periodically change officers around or they will just wander off on their own.

The bug whith rifles on their hips instead of the shoulders is mine. But I don't remember any misfiring?

The muskets have always been good at the lowest levels but quit working after a while. I keep one around just to equip it to make the soldiers carry theirs properly. I have been having fun with the musketoon but is has stopped working and the blunderbuss doesn't do noticeable damage at the middle levels, so I will be equipping the pistols.

uhm, a little out of topic, but.. unused officers wander off on their own? you mean that they will leave? i didn't know that..

The officers that wander off are part of your shore party. When you go one way he will go the other, and if you get into a fight he will stand there and watch. Replacing that officer with another one fixes the problem for a while.

Yes they do, but not as fast. It is best to click "shared experience" in the skills column as soon as possible, both for you and each of your officers.
