is there any chance someone can tell me how to access a map of where colonys etc are, i had to escort a ship to a harbour and failed miserably as i had no clue where to go, also how do you board ships, i took away all the health but did not have a option to scavenge

I'm not sure I understand the second question. Which health did you take away? The ship's? If you keep firing cannon at the enemy until its health runs out, it sinks, at which time boarding is not an option. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

If you get really close to the enemy ship while it's still afloat, you should get the message at the top of the screen "Press F3 to board". Or the enemy may "help" by boarding you! You may need to match course and speed with the enemy ship, although having a boatswain with good Boarding skill will relax this restriction. A really good boatswain will let you board the ship while approaching it head on.

oh and thanks for the elp with boarding i added a point to boarding and it certaintly made it easier!

ive been having fun so far with this game, i started off simply attacking boats and then found my way to goadaloup where i got a letter of marquee which thankfully sorted out my bad relations, on my first escort for my new boss i managed to complete it, yet for some reason have the boats i was suposed to be escorting still follow me, i think ive ben payed for the job and i can get nore jobs so i really dunno whats up

Check your logbook, specifically the entry for "French state service". See if you really think you've completed the mission...

thanks for all the help, ive reached level 8 and got myself a nice class 2 ship, and ive got a good crew!
goin after my sister next, first though i need some cash!

lol silly me, i guess i forgot i told you all that! - in all honesty ive only done the 1 job for him as i find escorting boring unless its to sumwhere i intend to go to anyway, plus he kept askin me about islands i didnt know how to get to <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

im on the pirate king, hes one annoying pirate though!
can anyone tell me how to block i read it was 'Z' however for me that does nothing, ctrl appears to parry but im not sure <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> i havent needed to block in my travels so far but the pirate kings just too hard!

The man o' war and line ship may have more guns and crew than the frigate, but they're also slow and clumsy, as you've probably noticed when you try to turn. I like to use something a bit more agile for regular naval combat, but hit F2 and switch to the big battlewagon before going to attack a fort.

Unless you've already done this and changed keys, I think the defaults are that Block is Space, Parry is Shift.

Block means you hold the sword up in front of you. This has a reasonable chance of stopping basic thrust and slash attacks, although they can sometimes get through. It won't stop an all-out attack swipe, though. If you see him draw back his sword slowly, preparing for a mighty swipe, your only way to stop it is with a well-timed Parry.

It also improves your chances if you've gone up a few levels so you have more hit points. Make sure your Fencing skill is at maximum and you have all the fencing-related special abilities. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" />
 
thanks for all the help, ive killed the pirate king and have taken over 5 or so forts, one quick question just out of quriosity - does it matter what nation u change ure sails to, will certain nations not touch u if u use theyre flags, its a bit late for me i think but is it somthing that happns?
