Ah! My level dropped from 15 to 12 by entering a boat

I was playing the game, and I got to that part where you take the idols from the pirate boat on douwensen. BUT as soon as I enter the boat.... Whammo! my level drops from 15 to 12. I noticed the drop in redmond, where my character level had dropped from 15 to 5! OH MY GOD! now that's kinda scary. anyways, I just thought I would give you a heads up. Thanks
