AoP content

Hello all,

Maximus has, so far, been able to add character, ships and interior locations from AoP into PotC. He now reports he has also figured out how to add towns. Basically, this means we can add almost all land locations, ships and characters from AoP, so we can almost use their full content. I think we should decide on what parts of this we should add. Naturally, we want to add as much as possible, but I don't really want any trouble with Akella either. Please give your views on this matter.

I think the most easy are characters - they could be added without any limitations. As for the ships - we could add them as well but it would be better to reskin them before a bit to look different, but it needn't be necessary. Towns: would be present but only if we could use only separate buildings from AoP cities and set them differently, but I'm not sure if it's executable. Most probably it could be only done by implementing whole sections of a given town... In the latter case, although it would be very temptive to add those cities, we shouldn't do that though, I'm affraid. We could really get into trouble with Akella - they don't help us, but if they start to interfere it would make things much worse.

PS. Of course, those ships should be added without lights on yards as it's extremely unrealistic (I saw screenshots from Corsairs 3/AoP and every ship has them <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />).

i think some characters and many or few ships can be added, i think thou we should stay compleatly away from adding the towns of AoP.

After sailing in the Lugger VML (AFAIK exported from AoP) and seeing how so nice / realistic /beauty the ship is..... plz add ALL the ships from AoP !!!!

BTW Anybody has noticed that this ship has a functional windrose IN the ship (first person view) ???? It's amazing

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> there, matey.

Brought that one across from the SLiB mod. Aye, nice looking vessel...

Cheers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I would love to have some weapons from AOP, but we shouldn`t copy the towns, because then it isnt fun to buy AOP when it comes out. But some weapons, character, and ships ( schooner, sloop, lugger) that kind of vessel could be implanted

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> To All,

I will buy AOP when finally will sell out, and I think that should be better have something to discovered of this game.

Then for have a chance to continue to play with POTC after play AOP is that they are differents game, if POTC have the same ships, towns, weapons of AOP why I have to play with a copy of AOP when I can play the original?

Well, sounds like most people have made up there minds already about the buildings or towns....which would be the one thing that would allow us to keep our islands looking unique......I feel that the Last thing we should be bringing over are the ships.....because the funny thing, as far as I know, or have been lead to believe about Age Of Pirates is ...the game is about Pirates, and that means SHIPS!!! So, if Akella wants to be so protective about anything!, I would assume their ships would be the hardest to create for them, taking a working knowledge of things like Maya!, therefore they would probably take more offence to their ships being used. So I think thats settled then..NO more ships, in fact we should give back what we took already....

I mean lets face it, the one thing that our newer modders here have not been able to create in any great detail are brand new ships, they all want to ,but agree that using maya, or something else is fairly hard, and difficult to master. But buildings have been cobbled together by people here already, so they are not as big a deal...the one major problem with the buildings is the "collision Detection" for those buildings, and that is because of the restrictions of the game engine...

As for a bunch of weapons I dont think anyone will care...they are all the same anyway. Characters are unique to the games they are made for, and this may not have been a good idea......BUT! We already took these, and no one seemed to worry about this then........

So I wont go on like a broken record, but I think most of you have not thought this through, All you want are "more" ships...."more" Frigates..."more" schooners...."more" "more" "more"....
Seems to me this would be the last things we should....a....borrow!

As far as I am concerned:
Adding characters: Most of the AoP characters look rather cartoonish and don't seem to fit into the PotC game world. I did add the main characters from AoP, for those who want to use them as player characters, but other than that I would suggest to leave the AoP characters out. We have lots and lots of great characters in our game already, made by our great modelers and skinners (Petros, Catalina, Daede, Alan Smithee, High Sea Lass, etc.)

Adding weapons: I don't think there is any point in adding new weapons, unless they are truly distinctive. So either we add new weapons and make them truly distinctive or we leave them out. We have permission from AlexusB to use SLiB content, so I would say that if we add new weapons, we should first borrow them from the SLiB mod, which we are allowed to do, instead of adding them from AoP, which we are not allowed to do.

Adding ships: We have a lot of new ships added to our modpack that are not taken from AoP. Catalina, Petros and others have made great reskins from existing ships. Captain Hawk has made great modifications from existing ships. Inzane added the Surprise which he built from scratch. Jack Davidson added the LuggerVML from the SLiB mod. And there are still several ship skinners active working on English and French ships. We can add a lot of new ships to our game, without taking them from AoP. We could decide we take a few ships, but only a few ships. Not all. We already added one Battleship, one Tartane and one Manowar. I don't think we should add more than 5 in addition to the ones we already have.

Adding towns: Adding these is the most seductive of all. We have, so far, been unable to make completely new towns. Luckily for us, CCC's BuildingSet has enabled us to make copies of current towns look distinctive on their own. But there are still several completely cloned towns on the new islands. It would be absolutely great to add in some of AoP's towns, but I think that Akella would not be pleased with that at all. If we add in new towns, we should only use them to replace current clone-towns. Antigua and Saint Martin have pretty distinctive towns, thanks to CCC, so these will not be replaced. That leaves several other towns that we can either make distinctive with the Building Set or which we could replace with AoP towns. I think that we should try to stick with the Building Set though, as much as possible. If we add in new towns, we shouldn't add in more than two.

Adding interior locations: It would be pretty nice to add some new taverns/shipyards/etc. into our game. With the new islands added, it is really beginning to show that all locations are almost the same. We could choose to add in a few new interior locations, just to make the towns a bit more distinctive. But we shouldn't overdo it. We can't take all of AoP's content and put it in PotC. As far as interior locations go, I think about 5 would be OK. 10 is defenitely too much.

If we try and decide on some numbers of new things to add, we can limit ourselves from adding everything. Then we'd have to choose which new AoP content would truly liven up our game, without actually adding a lot of AoP content.

Ahoy thar Pieter...how be the sailin weather fer yew matey, have yew made it too Singapore yet? Clearly Jack was taken with it!

I agree with yew on the looks of these characters, but was thinkin, even with the way they move they don't seem to fit player characters, but we probably could use more for NPC's either just to make newer Islands unique, or even for Enemy forces. By this I mean, well ok lets use Rys Bloom for example....He is one of my officers and yet sometimes I'm fighting 2 of him in the Jungles....or maybe just too make that tavern keeper on "Killamanjarro" look different than the one on Oxbay....Savvy! But not for player characters!

Weapons I agree completely.....unless they look different from what we got. Or unless someone adds a Special one for a quest....Like the Highland Claymore that belonged to "Bonnie" Prince Charlie, that was carried to the new world, instead of allowing it to fall into the hands of the English Army...somethnig like that...HINT!....HINT!!..bahahaha

Hey I love the different ships......But I have different views sometimes on the size of these...For instant, in most of my reading, ( Bolitho - Alexander Kent, Ramage - Dudley Pope....and even some Hornblower) I was led to believe that the Sloop was like a small Frigate, very similiar to a Corvette, which was predominantly a French vessel.....but in the build it is close to a Lugger. So what we have in the build seems different than what I pictured in my readings, and the ships seem wrong in sizes for me, same as Barquentines' and Brigatines'......But from what I know, and this is not extensive by any means, the ships are really hard to make for PC games, If we borrow to many of these we could run a foul....unless they be changed enough to keep people happy. Although the temptation is here to grabbed them all. If there are really nice different ones by all means...yes

<---- Here you sounded as if you liked the idea of more Buildings and Towns, and I agreed, I love What CCC and Screwface have done for the build, this will just give them more toys to use, and so we either keep the buildings the same...so the same governors mansion in one town, is used for the governors, in another clone town or we need new layouts. maybe it is only my pet peeve, but I see the Sign, on the tavern in a new town, and find out the building isn't being used.....this is just annoying and at least if I see the same street in a different town I know where I am....yet we can't get rid of these signs. So might as well use it, but then everything looks the same. I beleive, or hope that we will use more than one or two new towns.....sprinkle them out amongst the many that the new Islands can handle....We all know that the big Islands like Cuba, or Hispaniola, have other Towns that could have been added. But never the same one more than once. As for the interiors, used as many as we can, but again....if possible only once....maybe twice if we can. This way we keep most of the POTC stuff used alot, and a sprinkling of new ones for newer islands. If possible only use different buildings if they can be added to the game easier, than the originals. I understand there are/were limitations to using POTC buildings from my chats with CCC and readings. Is this the same with buildings from AOP? If not! Could we not use different buildngs and if so...then we make our towns completely different from the ones in AOP, and then I don't see as big a problem with Akella, but this might be wishful thinking!

No weapons, no ships....unless we get permission ( but I hate this personally )...all skins for NPC's and Enemies, keep the popular ones from POTC restricted for Officers only, not Enemies! and just the two for player characters if they are wanted that bad...( Beatrice wasn't bad, I tried her for the first time using a female skin as main, and she worked all right! Him....what is his name.....forgot...was just wrong....legs too long...looked out of place, so why anyone would want to use him is beyond me ) And as many buildings as we can use separately, but complete Towns, all we can get but only once

P.S. I know this is way too long already but.....In our Corporation, that I work for....they always say! It is easier to beg forgiveness than ask for permission.....for what it is worth

Actually silver, Sloops varied a great deal in sizes from large sloops to the smaller bermuda sloops.
But i do agree they are a bit small in PoTC, even some cutters are larger than that.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Well, then Im not stupid....I was so trying to understand the different ships at that time, and I had visuals of them through my readings, but then POTC seemed to have changed all that.....so I'm a little confused....in the game POTC all those ships just seem to be the same ship........small,...then you get Fleuts...Mechantmen, and Corvettes.....so i wish we could get different sizes for those little ones, but they all look the same ?

the main problem with the PoTC sloop is that its rigging is compleatly wrong, it only seems to be fore and aft rigged, in the most wierd configuration.
