AoP/PotC File convertion?

I am assuming that AoP will have a similar file type and layout to that of PotC. Would it be possible to convert all the wonderful skins and ships from PotC to AoP? I would really love using the JMV skins and all those awesome ships such as the Sloop-o-War an' the new improved MOW in AoP's singleplayer... and especially the multiplayer!!!
 
Shouldnt be a problem, they will probably need a few changes but other then that all the graphics and files follow the same format. I think...
 
I dont see why anyone would want to, the stock PotC ships look horrid, im looking forward to the more realistic looking ships in AoP, but thats just me i guess <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Good, because I'd really like to use the CorFrig2_50 from the post build 12 mod!!! (And fly the Stars and Stripes from the mizzen! Aye, the game is set c.17... but I'd rather play in the late 1700s-early 1800s.)
This will be really cool.
 
Well Corsairs3 looks similair in layout so i don't see why it shouldn't be able <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

You can probably convert POTC ship models from POTC to AoP, but they'll look real ugly there, since the number of polygons per model was increased this time. It'll take some serious remodelling and retexturing to fit them in.

Would love to see some more ships in the games and some new skins made just for AOP. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

What ships would you guys want in the game ? Seems alot like 18th century and early 19th century.

I would like to see ships of the same class look differant from country to country. IE., a Spanish 74 would be differant than a Britsih 74 or a French 74 gunner.

The only thing I don't like about Napoleanic era is that the British were unbeatable for the most part. French crews in this day and age were very poor as well as the spanish.

And even though the Dutch could give Brittain a good fight their Navy was a shadow of it's former glory by this time.

I would like to see ships from the 1750's to 1780's myself. The french and Spanish fought some excellent sea action against the British in this time period and weren't so weak as during the French revolution.

I don't know about you guys, but I like when an enemy can put up a good fight, Napoleanic French are too weak IMHO.
I would like to see 1st rates, 2nd rates and 3rd rates of differant kinds and differant countries; not just 1.

I think it should be possible to add PotC ships into AoP IF it is possible to modify the ships_init.c file for AoP. The engine would support the ships, I think.
 
Hi Pieter, that is excellent news indeed. And thank you Pieter about your PM a few days ago about some new mods.

May I ask what do we need to learn to start modding Age of Pirates ? I would be starting out and learning for the first time. WEould love to start with some ships to get new stuff in the game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I really don't care, as long as it's a well-made ship, with good looks and a powerful battery, I'm good. I have in mind making the Wasa, or Nuestra Senora la Atocha. I also want to focus on making a crew member stay on the steering wheel, actually holding it AND using it. We need more realism, you know.

It is excellent news IF you can modify the ships_init.c file. As far as I know, AoP will have a closed file format, unlike PotC, which would mean that you wouldn't be able to modify the code. The only way of modding would then be to replace the ships currently in the game with new ones.

I would like to have the Amsterdam into PotC as well. I don't care much for AoP.
