AoS2-PB help.

Alex1989

Powder Monkey
So... I recently got back into AoS2 and PB and I am learning how to mod and edit the game and I found an editor here: [Age of Sail 2 Privateer's Bounty] Editing Discussion

And trying to run it is a pain in the stern. cant get it to run...

I want to edit the scenarios in PB (Especially the Battle of Trafalgar) with Martes' new database but without this editor running, I am stuck fighting Trafalgar with French colored Spanish ships.

(Seriously though... who was the OG dev who ported the scenario back then?)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Uhm... What do you mean "french colored"? Like under French flags?

Because the game supports only two active sides, so French/Spanish squadron has to have a single flag for all of them.

If you are talking about the hull paint, I did change change the color schemes in the database, defaulting the French to red and Spanish to yellow. But it all can be changed if you work with the in-game editor, because, if I recall correctly, I included fixed-colored variants for each ship type.

I found a fix for the French Tricolor and I now realize the hull paint part though I made the Spanish red and the french yellow with the ingame editor and that took me A WHILE! LOL

So THAT is fixed. Still the editor I found still wont run and and I want to edit AOS2 (Not PB) scenarios. (I have both.) And that is a bigger PITA.

Alex, Do you have an example of a AOS2 scenario you want to edit? What did you have in mind? How do want to edit / modify it specifically?

Well... I do want to give the nations correct hull colors... For example, the French had yellow hulls like the English, and to correct the French flag issue post revolution. I mentioned and linked to an editor but running it is a pain. If there is a working program that edits scenarios, that'll be great. (Also I wanna make scenarios for PB deeper than the ingame scenario can do.)

If I had one scenario that I wanna edit ship colors is Trafalgar.

Modeling and graphics are not my thing, so I can't offer specific advice on how to make changes to models.

However, Re. Country colors for ships. The models can be found Path: Privateers Bounty\resource\txt_res. Open up a model and see country _colors for each country. 0=red, 1=white, 2=yellow. Historically, Britain was yellow/black, French were a mix of red, white, and yellow.. If you have and extra country code like French republic the ship will be the last color ie the color given to denmark's assigned color..

Re: PB has an scenario and campaign editor. It is tricky to use , and as you say a PITA! However, it works, and with it you can change or create new scenarios. You can link scenarios into new campaigns. I just posted a recent example of a new scenario in a scenario-and-campaign-editor thread to this forum:

I see, also, are those custom models in those pics, where did you get them?

You mean you found a way to assign different flags to same side? How?

From me :)
Not exactly... I had to create a tricolor for the french ships post revolution. I believe the regular AOS2 had Trafalgar with different flags on the Franco-Spanish fleet but best I did was assign the tricolor for them in PB. (I tried... That's why I need that python editor working. I could do much more if it did.)

I thought the models aren't done yet? unless there is another set you have like a concept set or something.

I do want to edit the ships textures though on the default ships to match the correct ship colors. by nation.

So much I need to learn...

They aren't. I just sent Glenn 3 very old models - my first frigate, a 64-gun ship and a French 74. They are very low detailed and for some reason he can't get the frigate stern texture working, but they are still much less generic than the original game models.

I think I can either put them here or send them to you by PM as well.

To edit the textures you need a program called TF Converter from here:

in order to work, the texture has to be of a fixed bit size, i.e. 128,256,512,1024 in each of the dimensions, (you can have 256x128, but not 600x800 for example) otherwise it won't show.

Ah, I just created a new country called French Republic and put a new flag there.

Thing is, historically there was not much of a nation-wide uniformity of ship paint schemes. It totally depended on paint availability at hand. You easily could've see a line of battle with yellow, pinkish, white, red and black ships on the same side all the way up to 1815, and considering some changed hands or were copies of ships of enemy origin, that was not very useful for identification, which was done, really, more by color or cut of the sails (and the game gives different colors to sails of each country as well).

I wish your endeavor on the models well! Been checking out the details on the other site and I can't wait!
