Basic skinning in POTC

Hey folks

I would very much like to paint my own textures in POTC. I know that this is totally possible because of the godly creation of the Buildmod 12 which has MANY new skins, and textures. I'm just wondering how I would go about doing this? I can paint - I am an arts student, I am just not sure where I get the files that I can edit to create a new body for whomever I choose.

You can find the programs you need at the Modding Tools page of <a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.org/" target="_blank">my site</a>. You need the TX Converter to convert the textures and the HEX Editor to be able to make your new skins not replace existing ones. The texture files are in the RESOURCE\Textures subfolder. Convert them from .tga.tx to .tga using the TX Converter. Then edit the file and convert it back with the same program.

If you want to make the new skin not replace an existing one, you can change the texture's filename. If you do, you should make a copy of the model file that uses your texture (found in RESOURCE\MODELS). You should then change the texture name the model uses, which can be done with the HEX Editor.

I don't know yet, I'm still a little overwhelmed with the possibility. I have started doing some thumbs of what I am looking to do...

First and foremost I will probably actually design something in terms of a frock jacket that I want to make for myself too. So I guess it would be a pretty personal skin... from there on, well... we'll see <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> thanks again

let us know how you get on - PotC can always use way more skins for everything.
What sort of program are you going to use? I've been thinking of having a look at this kind of stuff myself, so thats at least two newbies to this process; and at least you are an artist - so your ahead of me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I might start with something simple - like a big green frog suit <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> (just joking!)
