Biggest Land War Victory???

Ok well I guess im curious to see how big people have gone after getting a huge win...or what i thought was huge over a large spanish town...

Gotta say, this was all gay...and I coulda easily gone double that amount im sure....the secret is in the starting area that you place your pirates...ie their are bits where you cant go eg the rocky ground texture....and I had a one square entry to my troops...thus lining up 3 musket groups to just mow them as they rolled on in. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
 
Yeah I think the choice of the starting location gives the player waay too much power. You can easily kick everyone's ass with just a few well placed units. I would be happier if the position or choice of position would depend on more ingame factors.

For example, you could change your position if you had good intelligence of the city you are trying to invade and stuff like that.

One question though, has anyone ever managed to have cannon units in his invasion force?
 
No cannon yet and I've been using a large frigate. I would have thought my troops would have brought some of the cannon off the ship. I have yet to see the opponents use cannon either.
 
If it is too easy? Divide the plunder and move up the difficulty level 'til you reached a more suitable level for you to play on.
And I think that only towns will have cannos in land battles on level Swashbuckler. But I have not tried that level myself just yet, so I'm not sure though.
 
The last time I saw cannons on a battlefield was in the first beta version we had. I have not seen them in the final version at all. They DID make a cool sound when fired though, I'd like to hear that again <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
 
I have only played Swashbuckler. And had tons of land battles. Never saw any canons.

And a note... it is pretty lame AI in the land battles. I mean, you can lure enemy cavalry into the woods and then woop their asses without losing any men. And you can line up musketeers and kill most of their army before they get near enough to hurt you. As long as you choose the startingpoint carefully and stay in the woods.
 
Well...the pirates themselves should not be bringing their own cannon anyway...would YOU want to drag a ton of ordnance through a jungle to attack someone?

AS far as the city cannon...maybe it depends on the length of the battle for the cannon to be deployed?


The biggest land victory i managed so far was using 115 pirates to take on Santo Domingo's 450. Basically i was trying to get them all killed off so i could divide my plunder along more amicable terms to my captyain lol. Anyway...i ended up picking a good start location and was able to channel the enemy troops in ones and twos coming out of a jungle...giving me some brutal flanking attacks into the jungle, and supported by 3 buccaneer units. The beauty of it was my pirates were in decent cover for the enemy counterattack volleys, so i had time to retreat them back and flank attack again and again when the enemy entered the jungle.

I ended up finally losing most of my troops in the long run...but my officer corps was able to make it to the city gates and victory.
 
Hmm.. Checked the Pirate ingame documentation thing: sais there that pirates never use cannons, only cities do.... shame... a real shame
 
Also just sacked Havana's 550 troops with my own 135 Bloodthirsty buccaneers. ( Was trying to get a larger share of my 95000 before dividing the plunder after sailing for 2 years) Ended up sacking havana for 12500 more gold heheheeh.

I beat the spaniards so badly that i had to go back and hit Havana a second time to kill off more of my crew lol.
 
I sacked Panama with 250 or so pirates. I started at Barbados, sailed west grabbing every Trade Galleon I could. Wound up at Panama with 7 Trade Galleons and 1 Royal Sloop. This was in anticipation of grabbing all those commodities that HAD to be in Panama...

The sad thing is, I realized at that time, and I have seen no type about it here is. In the original, when you sacked a town, not only did you get gold but you also was able to take the towns commodities they had. I have not been able to do this in the remake yet. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> I really miss that aspect for some reason.
 
Well, the men will thank you for not making them haul 5000 tons of sugar, spices, goods, cannons, and such, through the rainforests in the middle of monsoon season. I've started bashing Trinidad, but Rio de la Hacha was a challenge. They kicked my butt! I guess i should trick the enemy soldiers by sending a unit to the walls of the fortress..... Then a take the captain in a sword fight. I guess this would do it as well. This is my next strategy.
