Black screen - Build 14 Alpha 7 Plus

I have had two black screens whilst on land - one going into the Oxbay caves, one coming out of a house in Greenford. Not exactly a CTD as I can still get to F1 to exit (and F2 also still worse), but no more. Howeever, when I tried to load up a saved game the screen remained black? When I exited the game completely and then went back in, the saved game loaded fine.

I have had a look at the bug tracker and it seems this is flagged up with respect to capturing a Fort but I can't see any reference to it happening whilst travelling around on land. Has anyone else had this problem/are there any obvious solutions? Apart from saving regularly of course.
 
Alpha 7 Plus is indeed very unstable. We recommend people to go for the Build 12.9(I think its called) which should be rock stable as far as I heard. Or you can go for 13 Final, which is fairly stable IMHO.

Do your black screens happen randomly or do they happen everytime your are doing something in the caves/the house?
Also, I dont understand how you can load a game, once you saved it when the black screen have occured. My loaded games are just as black as when I saved them <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
 
Build 12.9? What's that? I recommend Build 13 Final. Or Build 14 Alpha 6, which is also said to be pretty good. Build 14 Alpha 7 and Alpha 7 Plus are somewhat crappy and should only really be used by the modding team to check out the latest mods, but not for actual playing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I meant that I used F1 to load a previously good save and when it loads up, the screen is still black. I thought this might be significant because when I exit the game/re-enter the old save loads up fine. I wondered if the black screen affects the engine in some way? My programming skills are useless however and it probably means nothing at all!
 
Thank you for the information. It looks like we are dealing with 2 kinds of black screens, the random and the persistant ones. I have reported these bugs, but unfortunately I can´t promise you a fix for it soon.

We are currently going back to a previous Build in order to clean up the huge load of bugs, all the new stuff brought along. Until then, I am afraid You are going to have to deal with these bugs along with the other bugs in Alpha 7 Plus a fair amount of more weeks to come. We will be including the new stuff step by step later on, though <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
