boarding

hi mates,
i've ben thinking on something, for the ones that like to board better than shooting ships, why cant we leave a ship without a crew after we defeat their crew?

when we are boarding a ship, at the end we must take it or sink it, why cant we leave it without a crew? when we defeat all the enemy fleet we could pick the ones we want, and loot the rest, that would be a lot more realistic, does a empty ship sink ? no! so why we must sink them? ofc, after we leave a ship without a crew, it would be possible to damage it and sink it, that meaning our enemies could sink it or even us on a cross-fire, but at the end of the battle, we should be able to board and loot the defeated ships that didnt sink, and then, we must only take what we can with us(5 ships and the max load possible on all of them) to the main map, and only then the remaining ships left behind would be lost, eventualy sink

this could even add random encounters(generated by the game not by our spoils ofc lol), like, when we sailing we could find empty ships that we could take or loot(if anything still loaded), duno if this is hard to do by modding, but at least the first part of my idea im pretty sure it is not that hard(i hope lol)

Well you don't have to leave <i>crew</i>, all a ship needs is a captain. I'm guessing technical limitations in the engine which simply can't handle a ship without a captain. But it's kinda funny how one guy on a warship can fire all its dozens of cannons all at once all by himself, isn't it? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

thats not the idea sordid, what i mean is we should be able to leave the ship uncontroled, or at the most with a captain, but not even that is necessary, what is the problem to leave a ship by itself? the only thing it needs is float and that a ship can do alone right? my point is, we should be able to defeat the enemy fleet without waste crew to take ships in the middle of the fight, and also without waste the loot by sinking them because we cant control more than 5...
at the end, when and if, we win, we board them again, and pick those we want and loot the others, but, like i said, doing this, its also risky, coz the ships uncontroled could be targeted by any other ships, and even, if we sail too far away we could even lost contact with those ships, loosing the oportunity to loot them

i just dont think we would at any chance waste any time transfering cargo between ships while fighting right? and even so, why cant we loot them after? like i also said, when we decide to leave for main map, then, we should have the fleet and cargo limits to be alowed to do so, like we already have, with crew and cargo, when we try to leave for main map, if any of our ships have more cargo than it can carry or less crew than its required to sail, we are not allowed to leave...
my point is just to add a new option when defeating an enemy crew, one that simply leave the ship alone(it can even be left with its sails out so it will be stoped there)

its more realistic, and also more profitable for us <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Um, you <i>can</i> leave a ship with only a captrain and 0 crew, you know.

im not sure of that...never tried(i will next time i play), i know i can take all the crew from a ship that is already mine, duno if i can do it when taggin a new one, but the main problem remains, after i tag 2 ships i reach the max of 5 ships, then i have to sink the rest...and as i use a fast ship to board, i dont have much room for loot(and like i said is not very realistic, taking the enemy ship cargo in the middle of a fight), and even if you have a larger ship, taking the loot will make your ship a lot slower, i know i can then get closer to another ship in my fleet and unload(that is what i do actualy) but the realistic factor remains, i am in a dog fight with 2 or 3 ships and i go unload loot(that i had loaded in the middle of the same fight lol) on another ship in my fleet? that would be nice to see...

You can leave a ship with no crew, but you won't be allowed to 'Sail To' or go to map sailing. You have to have enough crew to meet the min requirements of all ships you have under your command or you'll be forced to compile all your goods into one of the ships, then send that extra ship to the bottom when you remove her captain.

Actually you will be allowed to 'sail to' <i>if</i> you do it right after you capture the ship (ie. when you capture it near an island and move it into the town right away). If you switch from the map into sailing mode and remove crew from a ship, you won't be able to 'sail to'

Edit: Or maybe not. I'm so confused.

Well, you need to meet the ship requirements, but you don't have to actually apply them. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

If you have 2 ships with a min=30, you can have 60+ on one ship and 0 on the other. Then you can fast travel still.

hehe probably my bad english dont allow me to explain what i want

i will try again :p

what i want, is to be able to board a ship, then leave it with no crew and no captain

is this possible?(by modding, not in the actual gameplay)

im not familiar with modding, but the way i see it(and i can be wrong hehe) it should be easy to do, just allow us to tag ships without control over them(they remain stoped with no action), and when we finaly defeat all the enemy fleet we manage the crew and cargo at our pleasure between our fleet, at the end, we will only take 5 ships(if we have the crew and the officers) in our fleet and the cargo those 5 ships can take, leaving the rest behind when leaving to main map, at the end will be prety much the same, but more realistic, this game tries to be more realistic than AoP and i think this way it will be more realistic

if someone think this is possible by modding, i will love to have the mod for it :p

Well, this is something that should be possible.

It was done more or less for the Build mod. Basically ships there can surrender even before you board them. When they have surrendered, they strike their colors, come to a halt and are then boardable.

It has become buggy in the last few releases though and doesn't quite work the way it originally did.

Still it should be quite possible to get ships to strike their colors and sit there waiting for you to board them.
