Bodies disappear when they shouldn't

So i checked advanced options and buildsettings.h and they both are set to corpses persist and can be looted manually.
But when I kill people they disappear and i cant loot what isn't there. I am running Beta patch 5 and i just started a new game.
Anyone know how to fix this?
 
I noticed that things in buildsettings.h have nothing to do with what I actually set in game.

Try deleting options file from main folder, then play and in advanced options reset everything again.
 
yeah that didn't work...
i didn't have this problem when i played patch 3.1 so i
wonder what changed.
 
Try using the default settings; that keeps the lootable corpses around until you go to another location. :shrug
 
okay so the bodies stay when it is set to option 3, but if its set to have the bodies be an obstacle until looted then the bodies disappear when they die.
I know it used to work in earlier versions but it looks like it is broken atm. shame because i like the option to have bodies pile up and get in the way of people trying to come kill me.
 
Have you tried changing settings through Options>Advanced Options in the game menu prior to starting a new game?
 
yeah i did.
it just didn't work when i chose for the bodies to be obstacles.
also does anyone know what i can change so that surrendering ship captains don't duel me every freakin time?
 
That depends on your skills; the higher your skills, the higher the chance that they'll just surrender without a fight.

i have another question lol.
do spyglasses ever tell you what type of ship you are looking at like galleon, corvette etc.?
I'm playing arcade mode btw.
 
I beg to differ. :wp The spyglass can indeed tell you ship type as well as it's name and much more. But you need to be close, have the best spyglass, and, in options, have it set to the "fun" setting. :j2

Oh yeah. I finally got me 24" 1920X1200 monitor working again. :))

what does an officers role affect? like if rys bloom is set to be first mate or quartermaster or boatswain, what is the difference?

The officer's role affects which skills they contribute to the combined summary of skills. eg a quartermaster contributes to commerce, a surgeon to defense, a gunner to cannons & accuracy, a navigator to sailing.

So if you find an officer with 10 in commerce skill - allocate him/ her to quartermaster to take advantage of the skill - if you find someone with 10 in defense allocate them to surgeon. -- and so on.

I think first mate contributes to Melee & leadership -- boatswain to grappling - but am not sure.

If the officer's skill level is below the player's level of that skill then the player's level is used in the summary.
 
The Passengers interface shows which skills the officer will contribute because the ones he doesn't contribute will indicate 0.

First Mate: Leadership - 1/2 Sailing
Navigator: 1/2 Leadership - Sailing
Gunner Accuracy - Cannons
Boatswain: 1/2 Leadership - Grappling
Surgeon: Defence - 1/2 Commerce
Carpenter: Repair - 1/2 Defence
Quartemaster: Commerce - 1/2 repair

Removing from post results in having master-at-arms, who is just pal to help in fight.
Note that halfed skills (rounded up) - if you have officer with maxed defence and commerce before you go to shop change him to quartermaster and after transaction back to surgeon.
Also, some characters cant develop some skills. So Artoi can handle his own ship but just till you sell it, cause he'd need gunner and surgeon to stand in battle. Claire Larouse would need surgeon on her own ship, but I made her my personal gunner.
