Well, they're dutch, and I guess they were pissed that the English kept killing them.
I started a new game (lack of interest in the old one) and then I was a knight, had over a million and a half gold, and bam, randomly drops to horror, so I say, what the hell, then go blow up some spanish fleets ( I was neuteral with them at the time) then blow up douwessen (I don't even like the dutch that much, anyway) so whatever.

I having a reputation prob. too, when I talked to the governors niece
my reputation increased, I did'nt know what I said (I just hit the `space-bar`)
Is it something I said or a bug?
 
i suppose certain things you say or do with them could increase your reputation. i've never looked at it <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" /> doesn't sound like a bug though.
