Hallo, Mates! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />
Dear Cat informs me that the Build modules are for all intents and purposes frozen, so we can turn our eyes to the installer mechanisms. I'll lay out for all of you what me particular vision is for said mechanisms, and you'll tell me if I'm off course or not. Savvy? (Sorry, couldn't resist. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> )
I intend to make the following types of installers, each of which will be intelligent enough to do their job without thrashing things to death, within limits:
<b>1. Monolithic (the whole shebang of Build 12 as a single downloadable)
2. Web Install (downloads in `easy-to`-digest bits for modem users)
3. Web Updater (allows us to make fixes and updates as need be)</b>
Now, what I need from all of you is a validation of me assumptions and the required information.
I'm venturing that Build 12 will apply on top of an installation with Build 11 already present, with no other mods applied. I can allow for some tweaking of <i>in situ</i> files (as I've done this meself and am keen on keeping the settings), but some settings may be overwritten in favor of the Build.
What I'll need is:
<b>1. Access to the CVS server
2. A complete list of the modules comprising the Build, with installation instructions
3. The installation order of the Build modules
4. Any installation text and artwork that we want to dazzle the users with</b>
Please get back to me with your input at your earliest convenience. Here's to success!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
