Build 13 Full installation problem

Deluded by AoP, i decided to reinstall PoTc and download the latest stable version of the great Build Mod. Sadly, i have a problem installing the mod and i hope somebody here can point me in the right direction.

During installation, the following error will appear:

"Unpacking Error: corrupted setup file!"

The last file i can see being installed is:

"Kapitan.tga.tx"

I tried to re-download the installation file, but the error still there. I tried to unistall the game (cleaning the registry as well), re-install again and then try to install the mod, but the same error showed up.

I also tried to install to a different folder (previously, i was installing it in my PoTc directory) but to no avail.

I own a legal copy of the US version with no patch installed (are there any??)

I performed a search to see if this issue was common, but i couldn't find anything. If i've missed something, please feel free to give me a hint or two <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

does unzipping the downloaded build before you install it help?

and no, there are no patches, except a fix here and there.

by the way: did you remove STARFORCE, the program that comes with AOP? i don't think it has anything to do with the problem you are having, but starforce causes a lot of problems with your computer. it would be a very good idea to remove starforce.

Sorry mate,

i didn't quite get you.

What do you mean "unzipping" it ? I downloaded the file from Pieter's site and it comes as a normal exe file.

Again, sorry if i'm missing something here

Edit: I don't have the starforce files installed on my pc, i used that SF removal tool you can download on their site. I'm pretty sure i don't have StarForce leftovers on my hard disk, but i will run the tool again just to be sure.

I bought Age of Pirates, but can't run it until I upgrade my computer with a new video card and memory....is it really that bad?
 
Thanks for the help guys, i managed to work my way around the problem.

This is what i did. I downloaded Build 12.1 then the upgrade to Build 13 and update 2 full.

Installed everything as per instructions and it's working like a charm now.

As far as AoP goes, imho .. yes it's really that bad. New features aren't a major improvement over PoTc (i.e.: town progression is nice.. but not really game breaking, gameplay wise) .. It's more or less the same game with better graphics and possibly less features. The only thing i "miss" is maybe the abilities system .. Having more rpg elements is always a good thing, imho.

I would install it again only if someone had time to make a Build mod for it .. otherwise .. PoTc with Build mod is still the best pirate game out there.
 
build 14 alpha HAS the RPG style skill increase. do certain things, and the appropriate skill increases. however, it's going WAY to slowly, except the cannon skill, which goes way to fast.

oh: you will need a fix for the ship berthing menu. it's somewhere on the forum, but i don't know where.

I'm looking forward to download the next version of Build 14 alpha.. I was reading today it has some bugs right now.

well, bugfixing will probably never stop, so at a certain point you will have to decide wether to live with the old, or use the new with more features, but other bugs.
 
There is a reason that the Build 14 Alpha is called Alpha. The reason being that it's just a testversion for new features. We try to make it as stable as we can and it does work reasonably well, but it isn't perfectly stable and I can't guarantee that everything will work as intended. It's simply a Work In Progress right now that everybody can test if they like. Eventually it will be turned into a stable Build 13 Update and even more eventually it'll be Build 14.

I can feel that you've been hurt by that SF crap and feel sorry for you!
I had it on my computer and successfully removed it from my computer
without formating! I used the removal tool and made sure there was'nt any
files and entry's left in the registry! All the instructions are on www,glop.org.
as you know.
 
Hi, Nosie. I personally don´t believe that. Your computer needn´t show any starforce driver present but I think in the close or father future some problems with your computer may and will probably appear. But I certainly don´t wish you any problems what about your computer concerns. I thought several times I removed SF but unfortunately it wasn´t true. As I said many times before, the computers show that no SF drivers are present in them anymore but it isn´t true and problems sooner or later will appear. The only time, I had SF on my system was when AOP was first released.
I played it a couple of times and than I got myself educated and found
what sort of problems it can create. If you remember, I posted it a few times in this here forum!
Since taken it off my computer, and believe me all of it came off, I had no problems! All still works,
including the DVD drive! Now I would not go near it or install Patches in case of AOP!
AOP is the only game I play these days, as you don't have to install SF to enjoy it!
I'm reading a lot of forums about this topic, and feel sorry about people still being ignorant
about SF. Just look at the Playlogic forum!! Need I say more?......and you know, Russians can't

Well, in the end i decided to download Build 14 alpha and so far i have to say is MUCH better than expected. I guess reading too much doesn't always portray the truth <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

So far i encountered only one bug. I can't enter the pirate island anymore. If i go to town there, the guy i killed to start the Atios Votary sub-quest is still standing there in the middle of town, and my character runs toward the npc and i can't control it anymore.

I also tried going there at night .. but as soon as i enter i'm stuck near the gate, i can't move and i can't even exit.
