The dancing is fun, a lot of your success in wooing the governor's daughters is in dancing well with her - you have to listen to the music and move on the downbeat - follow her hand signals as to what move you should make, and try to keep on the beat. It's a challenge - and if you do it well enough she will share secrets with you, or give you items, even tell you that you have a rival and he wants to duel you over her...
If you divide the plunder when you are holding a lot of money, your crew will be much more impressed with you, and you will be deemed successful. You may even be invited to "up" the difficulty level. On the other hand, if you divide the plunder when you don't have much money, you MIGHT be invited to decrease your difficulty level.
The cannons on the ships fire discernable shot - and you have to be careful to aim correctly - or your shot will not hit the ship you are aiming at. If you're both moving (which is typical) this can be difficult.
You can buy triple hammocks as an upgrade for your ships at some shipyards. This will increase your capacity for crew - and give you excellent fighting power should you decide to take on a ship larger than yours, or if you want to attack a town...
