The more dependent your eyes get on glasse, the weaker they get.

I'm like Roy Neary in "Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind". I'd like to meet them. I think that would be neat. Of course, it would only be neat if they didn't try to bite my face off, but I'm hoping that they've been shy about meeting a lot of us because they DO NOT do things like that... :blah:

<!--`QuoteBegin-Captain_Python`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Captain_Python)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->2)Sight[/quote]

I wear glasses for distance but not for reading. I would LOVE to get surgery to correct my vision because glasses are a royal pain and I will not wear contact lenses. <shrug> My eyes are very important to me because I LOVE to read. I suppose I could read (braille) if I could not see, but I also love to create websites and other `graphics-type` things - and for that, I need my vision.

Ah, it's that LAST STEP that's the most difficult. You have to learn to live with disappointment as you get rejection slip after rejection slip...

Many times published journalist and biographer Gene Fowler said, "...Writing is easy. All you do is stare at a blank sheet of paper until drops of blood form on your forehead..."

Some people call writing a book "the birth process" - having been through it (I make lame attempts to write fiction once in a while, and have written a screenplay for a `feature-length` film), I know this is true because your characters become family to you. (no I haven't been published except for some small bits of poetry a long time ago)

To write well, I think you need to truly LOVE words... Who do you read, Captain Python?

<span style='`font-size`:25pt;`line-height`:100%'>Topic(s) for `2-23`-04</span>

Hellow all, I got 3 topics today, 2 of them related to politics again, sort of like a couple of days ago, with the Bill of Rights.

1)Governments through History
Have you ever realized than no one government has existed in the same form through all time? No matter what government it is, it will eventually fall. Sure it might take a couple thousand of years, like Egypt, but eventually, all governments have to sort of die off in it's own way. You could sort of think that a country is a person, it has a infancy, and eventually as it gets older, it gets stronger. It eventually has a high point in strength, and then as it gets older, it losses it's power, and it eventually dies. A country might be `re-born` and be a little similar, but never the same. A lot of the European Countries are in their 50s. The U.S.A. I would say is probaly `30-35`.

2)The Difference between the U.S. People and the people with Dictators in themThere is a major difference between people in the U.S. and people in Communist and Dictator countries. People in the U.S. can think and talk freely without thinking that there might be a penalty for what we said (or at least most of the time) and we take that for granite. People in Communism and Dictatorships always have to think before they talk, because if they say the wrong thing in the wrong place at the wrong time, they could be killed, and this is a sad thing isn't it? I think we should try to remember that we are fortunate to talk so freely.

3)I wish it was Spring Again
It's ugly out here in Wisconsin. The snow is dirty and still remains in clumps. Luckily, it is suppose to be in the 40s this week and no snow. That means the snow should be completely gone by the end of the week. Good thing the snow will be gone, because the back yard, were our dog goes to use the bathroom, has not been cleaned since November! How is the weather were your at?

U.S. can think and talk freely without thinking that there might be a penalty for what we said
BS... if you speak your mind in america your either labled something bad of good. no matter what you say someone will be upset and yes even if un likely you can still get killed... i have friends that have been shot or stabbed for speaking out... especially my friends that lived in the south. so in someways we have freedom of speech and in others no....

I will not be posting for a while on this thread, because I will be working on the Horatio Hornblower books for the new forum. About that forum name, I won't be voting on the name due to that there are so many good names on that forum, and I don't want to join another forum right now just to post once.
In speaking of Hornblower, I wish they would put the music they have on the A&E movies on a CD.

P.S. please don't `un-sticky` this thread.

UPDATE

I am working on now the review for Mr. Midshipman Hornblower. I went to Amazon.com to get a picture of the book, and I found that the whole `11-book` series is only $118. That is pretty good for just 11 books. I'll have topics of the day after the new forum hype is over.

$118 for the whole series? Dang! That ain't bad at all.

And what gets better than that?

My girly works at Borders, so she gets a 33% discount on all merch, except for DVD's. :)

If I win any money in Vegas, I'm buying a set!

<span style='`font-size`:25pt;`line-height`:100%'>Topic(s) for `3-1`-04</span>

Hello all, I know I haven't posted for a while, but today is the first of the month, so I decided to bring up a few things.

1) Master and Commander, How many awards?
Last night, the Oscars were on, and I saw that Master and Commander won 2 awards, for sound editing and cinematography. I only saw bits and pieces of the Oscars. Did M & C win anything else?

2) Lord of the Rings: Return of the King sweeps the Oscars
This is the 3rd and Final Oscars the Lord of the Rings will be winning awards in. Last night they won 11 awards! Now they tie 2 other movies as best movie of all time, Titanic and Ben Hur. It sort of stinks though that Lord of the Rings took the spot light this year for movies. Master and Commander, Pirates of the Carribean, the Last Samuri, and Cold Mountain were movies that would have probably have won more awards.

3) Welcome to my World
If you don't know me yet, I am a big Civil War reenactor and Historian. I found a Forum that is about Civil War Reenacting, and is only 33 members away from 6,000 members! Welcome to my world:
http://www.cwreenactors.com/forums.htm

4) Want to see a Reenactment?
I have been gathering information on Reenactment units throughout the country. And if you would be interested in seeing one, just put down what state you are from, and I'll give you a list of events that you might be able to go to.

In Reply to William: I am not sure about how much it would be on borders for the whole series. All I know that is on Amazon.com that it is $118 without shipping and handling.

In Reply to muddymonkey77: In order to get a seat at my table, you got to earn it through a couple of good conversation posts on topics at the table. I am pretty sure you can achieve that with the 4 topics for today.

Master and Commander only won 2 awards. Too bad POTC didn't win any. :):

Lord of the Rings won every award they were nominated for. :)

I watched the oscars last night and Master and Commander was in direct compitition with Lord of the Rings. I believe that Master and Commander only recieved the two oscars. I believe that the Oscar sweep for Lord of the Rings was due to the academy not giving them rewards in the past.

I used to do reenactments when I was younger. They are a lot of fun. If any of you can get to one, check it out.

i do think that the last samuri deserved some more awards but cold moutain i dont think so and pirates of the caribbean was a good movie but not very much acadmy award type of movie. im happy for peter jackson for getting best picture and director, it made up for the past two movies which he should have gotten them for. all thats LotR owns the acadamy awards this year. and if you count the other ones they own LotR has the most acadmy awards in history.

Yes I feel that it was well deserved. I was just hoping that Master and Commander got some recognision, because it is such a great film.

Whats that supposed to mean, Capt. Python?? :):

Thanks for letting me have a seat at your table! I like this laid back discussion of culture and current events.
