Changing POTC Music

dcsox09

Landlubber
I have a few music files in ogg format that I would like to be able to substitute for existing game music. I'm not much of a modder and have no idea what to do. Can anyone help me?

Such as I want to replace the music for the opium den...
Also, the music for sunsets at sea...
Finally, the music for the taverns...

Thanks... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />

I'm afraid I cannot help you here, Sir. I've played around with sounds and music before, and just can't get it to work. Maybe there is something in the POTC Wikki?

The music files are supposed to go into RESOURCE\Sounds\MUSIC. RESOURCE\INI\ALIASES\music_alias.ini also has something to do with it. If you want to specifically change the music for the Opium Den, you can search for the code for that location in PROGRAM\Locations\init\Redmond.c. Then find some code that is executed in the Opium Den and use something like <i>SetMusicNoPause("music_govfriend")</i>. I hope you can find some way of using this info.

I don't know how to change the music for sunsets only though. You can change it for sailing in general though.

Wouldn't it make more sense to edit the AllenSmitheeLocations.c file?

I'll try both and get back to you guys if it works. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I got it...

I managed for starters to edit the music for the build menu <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

only edited music alias and added track to music folder

Congrats Matey, don't forget to share your discoveries here with yer mates! I also be interested in adding music to the build. For starters I finally found the song "15 men on a deadman chest....yohoho and a bottle of rum" It was on the net and the song's real title was called "Derelict" I beleive it might have been part of a "Audio Book" of Treasure Island. I converted it to .ogg format so as to fit into the game, but could not quite chop off the piece where the narator sets up the story....I just wanted the song to play in the Taverns, as I figured this would be the perfect fit for them in the build. It is one man singing with later tavern patrons joining in. Anyway I uploaded it to the FTP site, but never heard if anyone ever managing to eliminate the talking part and use it. ( even if one of you fine gentlemen could help me to eliminate the part I don't want I will use it ....but need to know easy program and some directions)

Also similiar topic.....How does one add, <b>Not change or copy over</b> although this also might be helpful, the files for the dialogs so that characters can have more than one voice or saying! For example, when you hire officers, they always say the same lines....<b>It gets really annoying as your trying to beat them down in price, hearing them say the same line over, and over, and over, and over ( please don't make me repeat it )</b> I'm sure you get the idea...at least if we give them more than one line, it would sound more random....

Also there are all kinds of lines from POTC kicking around the net!, Can your main character not say something when you question people ? I thought it might be neat to add lines for Jack Sparrow, so your character asks them or uses them when questioning others ?

I know that in a long forgotten thread CCC told me how to change the music randomly for say jungle scenes, and I had a song working for some time, it was not in the build, but original Disney Pirates singing, but an updated version of the build copied over it...so I know the secrets to doing this are here abouts somewhere!

Help is on the way, matey. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I cut off the narrator so there is only the song and background sounds. And I give it a try in the game and it sounds pretty well in the tavern. Maybe a little to loud for my opinion but it fit perfectly with the tavern atmosphere. I think taverns in this period never where famous for their low noise ambience, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I put it back to the FTP. The file is named "15 Men Shanty.ogg".

And I think the song from the original Disney Pirates you've talking about should be still in the game folder in<b> /Resource/sounds/Music </b> and it's called "YoHo_with_Vocals.ogg.
You only have to change the <b>RESOURCE\INI\ALIASES\music_alias.ini </b> and put the name of the song in wherever you want it.
It should look like that for example:

<i>[music_tavern]
name = MUSIC\Taverna.ogg
name = MUSIC\Sailing01.ogg
<b>name = MUSIC\YoHo_With_Vocals.ogg</b>
name = MUSIC\YoHo_instrumental.ogg
name = MUSIC\The Pirate I was meant to be.ogg
name = MUSIC\PotC Taverna.ogg
<b>name = MUSIC\15 Men Shanty.ogg</b></i>

Thanks a lot matey, that be fine indeed. Thanks for the help.....so when you add this into the files, does it play all the time, or randomly?

It plays randomly. But it depends on how many songs you have defined in your music.ini for the different enviroments like the tavern or the shops. If that was the only song you defined it plays only that song every time you come to a tavern.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> Thankee Jack Black, that is exactly what I wanted to know and that was what I was working with earlier. I knew there was a way, but could not remember and could not find it, You can bet i'll be noting it down now somewhere.

P.S. what proggie did you use to chop off the offending bits anyway? I was trying to figure out swtich sound converter....got the reformat part done, but that was all....?

I use "I-Sound WMA MP3 Recorder Professional" from <a href="http://www.abyssmedia.com/" target="_blank">Abyssmedia.com</a> and the Windows Media Player 10. I just play the original .ogg file on Windows Media Player and make a realtime recording with "I-Sound Recorder". And I only record the part that I need from this song. The best thing of the recorder is that it can make his recordings in .ogg format so you don't have to convert them after all.
It's a little bit complicated to find out the right volume because it's depending on the volume settings of your PC and of the recording settings of "I-Sound".

Currentley I'm fooling around to add the music from the film to the game I'll let you guys know how it goes... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

What/where is this... FTP site? I may have missed something... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

It worked I synced the music from the movie to the game <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Avast thar Mateys....you be doin fine work ere tew be sure.

dcsox09: Not sure though but someone might have done that before you. If you go on the Piratesahoy website, under files or downloads there was a music file from "byjopieseethoek" and I'm sure it was the POTC Movie sound files to place inside Sea Dogs II which as we all know now turned out to be converted at the last moment and became Pirates Of The Caribbean - the game. If you can't find it, I have it ere in me hold sumwhere, and could probably place it in theFTP site for ye!

JimM: If you go to the thread ere in this very Forum under something like "Surprise model but no skins " you will find that Pieter place a link on that very thread to his FTP Commander. This is a free program and comes recommended personally by the "Great Master Compiler" himself......and works great....the sites for the two FTP Pirates Ahoy sites are already placed and working fine and full "o" booty, tew be fillin the holds of dozens of ships, guaranteed tew be keepin yer loyal crew happy fer weeks tew come

Nice Sailin with ye both!

P.S. now dcsox09, if'n yew be findin out that yers are much nicer, or have extra god stuff , even just more of it, makes sure yew share with yer mates around ere.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Go to the Pieter's pinned post, "Useful Modding Tools" It's ftp commander.

Thanks, that helps understand what I downloaded. I Probably wont be using it though... as I am not a modder person. I just thought it was somewhere that you could get mods that were not already included in the BUILD 12.1

I thought adding different music would be cool to try, but that looks too involved.... and I hate to "FIX" something that isn't broke... if you know what I mean. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I understand perfectly JimM, but still the "byjopieseethoek" music download was not that hard, really....and you simply Drag & Drop when you have both folders open on your desktop.......and it plays the music from the Movie. To be honest, one could just file their sound folder right on line as well. The files work the same way as all the Build Update Mods here now...they simply copy over the ones that are in your folders now...cause they are all named the same, but are modified

Oh, I can drag and drop.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Opening the FTP, and selecting the piratesahoy.org I found the selections on the right side of the screen. But, now I tried to find a file called byjopieseethoek and I didn't see it. I "Imagine" I am looking in the correct place?? Is it in one of the folders? OR is that the exact name of it?... I don't see it, I see other RAR and ZIP files... but the only "Music" files I see is Master and Commander folder with 2 .ogg files in it. and MCMusicV2.zip and PGmusbettersoundingversion.zip

Thanks for the help!!

Jim

Last time I looked, the PotC film music was not on the FTP. Maybe someone can upload it?
