Collaborating modders

Hope you guys can work things out, it would be a shame if two such creative people couldn't get along.

Fair winds to both of you. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Thanks, Sir Christopher, dialog in progress, no flames... Everything is fine. (I hope!) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

And thank you very much, once again, Sir Christopher, for the VERY kind words. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />: I appreciate the support. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I'll throw in my support for Cat too, she's backed me up quite a lot and helped me dive into modding without any foreknowledge; I only know Inez through her (? it's a feminine name, right?) work, which I'm browsing now on her homepage. It's awesome to see these new models. But I can't try them without ani files to go with, as I understand. So I'll wait and see...

It's funny seeing Blaze's head on all the other bodies, and the old man's on his.

Ines Diaz is the QC innkeeper. Inez Dias posts here on this forum. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Tush, I didn't say anything that any of your mates around here wouldn't have said.

I thought for a minute or two that we were going to have to follow Bartholomew Robert's Rules of Order and put the two of you on a beach, a sword and pistol apiece, and let the two of you come to an accord.
<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Nope, we opted for PARLAY. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />

I see that huge pack of head switches does work, which is (cover your ears, oh faint of heart) TUPPING BRILLIANT luv! I adore this; I didn't think it could really be done. Thank you!

Can you make more?

But your Lara Croft and guy in the suit (Hitman?) do work? I haven't been brave enough to try yet, with these frequent `game-wrecking` problems of mine. I just fully reinstalled for the second time today, alone.

Lara and GMan are the real news. They do work, even if not perfectly. And by the way, of course I didn't make the models - just converted them to gm and put the skeleton back in.
I don't think they'll wreck your installation - if anything goes wrong, just
switch the code (in character.ini, I think) back to the original model.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" /> VERY very very very very VERY COOL!!! Great job, WTG Inez! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Is it as simple as that, cutting and pasting the head portions of models?

I think I have everything I need to edit models, and there are some rooms I'd like to take a whack at, but I don't have the gm -> obj export or import or whatever conversion thing down...

No, it's not as simple as that. When converting gm to a different format, the skeleton information gets lost, so the model won't be animated in the game. The tool I'm making puts that skeleton information back in. So please be patient.

For models other than characters:
The gm->obj can be done with Gm Viewer (available here in the downloads section) , for obj->gm you need the Maya plugins, which used to be available here, too.

If you use Max, get the file VRMLImExport.rar from my Homepage and use it to convert gm to vrml, which can then be imported into Max. Save the edited model in Max in vrml format and convert that back to gm with my VRMLImExport program. And please tell me about your experiences with it, because the tool is brandnew.

Lady Inez,
What a great accomplishment! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Heartiest congratulations on your achievement! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" />

We tend to express our appreciation for people's brilliant work in terms of rum around here. Let us fill your cup, for you make ours runneth over.

I was afraid it wasn't that simple. Oh well, I'll keep working on that room.

I've only tried a couple of the `head-switched` models `in-game`, but noticed with those they have the funny habit of momentarily vanishing (though equipped weapons float in place) on ocassion. And some faces seem to be missing tiny pieces; for example, Blaze's face on the Researcher body is missing a tiny chunk of one side of his jaw. But it's a small matter and I'll gladly live with it.

*afterthought*

Oh, and I wanted to ask, in terms of hexediting, do you know if it's possible to give other woman models a gun equip and `holding-in`-`the-hand` attribute, or to simply switch anyone's gun/sword hand, for the sake of variety? I tried these things before but they wrecked my game...

I don't think you can give another woman models a gun equip. And it's probably not possible to change the hand, either... Would make things interesting, tho... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Just because it's possible. We've all been dying for new characters, and we'll try our best to make them look less cartoony. Lara is capable of equipping/firing a gun, based on her model labels, so that's awesome.

Thanks for the tips on model editing, Dias. But in Maya, exactly how do I save in .gm format? "Export" into that "SD2Geo" format, "Export all" into that format, or something else? When I try any/all of that, it only produces a blank text file titled "error."
