Commanding ships question

Hi, I've downloaded the mod few days ago and its pretty damn cool!

I have a question about commandin fleets and single ships. The game says you can't command a fleet until 5 lvl leadership, but on the other hand it asks if you want to keep a new ship. So whats the penalty for having a fleet with less than 5 leadership? Also simillar thing with commanding ships by player or officers. I can command class 6 vessel but recently Ive captured class 5 Sloop of war. So any penlties on sailing on her? And what is needed to raise the class of ships you can command? Leadership, sailing or just level up?

Welcome mate.

The penalty for sailing a ship that is rated higher than you are is that it will be slow and will turn slowly. That goes for your officers as well. You will notice that as your skills improve the ship will start handling better. There is no real penalty other than that if you wish to command a fleet.

Leadership and sailing skills are what you want to work on to improve your ranking.
