Couple quest questions

alan_smithee

Corsair
Storm Modder
I've found a few quests that I don't remember reading about anywhere, not even the B11 "quests added" file, so I have to wonder about them.

1) I forget his name, but there's this fat bald merchant with a little gotee just outside the church on FdF, and you help him recover some stolen artifacts. His is kind of tied in with the smugglers quest, which I think is mentioned in B11. I really have to suspect this was put into one of the builds because the quest log entries are just so over the top.

2) Rhys Bloom stands outside the port house on Redmond till you put in a good word for him then hire him... when you do, he tells you he knows someone who could give you a job, but I never hear anything more about that.

Are there any other quests in the build not mentioned anywhere that I should know about?

1.) Ah yes, that's Patric... I think he's been in there since before Build 11 - not sure he's original PotC but I do recall playing his quest as one of the first ones I did in PotC when I got the game...

2.) Rys Bloom, never did that quest all the way through - BUT as I look at the dialog now, it seems he mentions this person and there is no followup. There doesn't appear to be a trigger for meeting someone later on because you know Bloom... ??? Probably another unfinished quest that got interrupted by Disney...

I've often wondered if Bloom wasn't supposed to connect you up with Thomas O'Reily to do some smuggling... I've not done that yet, but it looks like a juicy storyline...

I don't know what else to tell ya, Alan, what are the quests you have done?

Really, you think Patric is original? None of the cheaty quest guides I read mentioned him, and the quest book entries are all like, "what a dashing pirate I am, yar har har," so I was almost certain it was a mod.

As far as quests ... Eh, I've lost count... All the major ones already in the game, thanks to some cheaty guidebooks and stuff. And most of the build ones, maybe all by now. Still haven't managed to even start your FBQ. I didn't have it installed properly before, and now I'm still waiting for that Orable Carron dingus to even mention ol' Fred Bob to start me out.

I believe that the Patric quest was `re-enabled` by NK on a very much earlier Build version. It's not a bad quest if you're playing as a `goody-two`-shoes.

Eventually when real life gives me some more spare time I hope to add a quest or two to Rys Bloom just to make him less two dimensional.
I had the basics of the first one down on Build 10 and since then I've not really had time to work on it to put it back into Build 11 and iron out some of the dialog problems.

Alan, there should be no trick to getting Orable to tell you about FB, just talk to him - he should tell you about FB after he mentions the pirates drinking, when he says, "Oh one more thing..."

If he does not, hmmm, something may be wrong with how I set up the quest... Let me know...

The quest book entries for the Patric quest *are* truly funny, and I think, `well-written`. Wonder who did them... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Sirus, the dialog I used for FB is based on the Rys Bloom dialog. Somewhat similar scenario, go to someone to get permission to hire him, that kind of thing. I even used the advice Rys gives for FB - tho I asked Fred Bob to translate it so it works for his character... If you talk to FB before you hire him, you can ask his advice - after you've hired him as an officer you can still ask (scroll down to the bottom of the list of things you can ask of him), but your responses are different - instead of impersonal, they are more personal since he is now one of your officers.

ok, I got FB now. I just needed the right dialog sequence... When Orable mentions the pirates I thought I had to keep him talking, because I figured dismissing that rumour would exit the dialog.

I was a little alarmed when I first saw FB, because his feet seemed to have fanished beneath his stripy socks. Or maybe they were buried in the sand. I think it was just a temporary graphics glitch, and unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to get a screenshot.

I like your dialogs for the quest, Cat. You should write questbook entries for it too.

*afterthought*

I've been meaning to ask, and this straddles the line with mods, but here's as good a place as any to bring it up: Why on earth can you ask shipyard owners for work if they NEVER HAVE WORK FOR YOU? Is this another option that needs `dug-up` and `re-enabled`, or do we need to write new `mini-quests` for it? I picture him sending you on little trips to gather supplies (go to some jungle and "cut down trees" for planks) or escort some folks around (ferry a scientist around the islands to do a little research), things like that. They could have more variety than cargo transportation and ship escort `mini-quests`.

Glad you got into it, Alan... FB makes an indispensable officer, especially early into the game.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> There *are* quest book entries! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> Are you not getting them? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

Fred Bob did his own "FredBobSpeak" dialogs (based on what I'd written for him "in English", LOL!) and that came out spectacularly! I did most of the rest of the dialog, with some borrowed from Rys Bloom (more for form's sake than anything)... Glad you enjoyed it.

That shipyard thing is probably something that needs to be resurrected, yes... And you're right, side quests might abound from something like that... Hmmmm... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />
