Yoho, the_saulty_paul!
If this is getting too frustrating, which I easily can understand it would be in time, I would recommend first of all Sid Meier´s Pirates! (he also did Civilization). Its old and easy running, it has decent graphics, it´s bugfree and cost around 10 bucks by now. Only downside is, there is no first-person sailing, only the worldmap. If you persist on sailing in first-person view, the precessor of PotC, Seadogs, would be your favourite choice. Its VERY old and the graphics are poor, but I never encountered a bug in that game. Only downside is, that I think its impossible to find as a new copy.
If you have troubles getting your ATI Mobility 200 drivers up and running with this game, the Omega Drivers will let you play any game, but with minor graphic glitches sometimes. You might want to try them out - if things get out of hand, I´ll help you. This <a href="http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati.php" target="_blank">link</a> will lead you to the ATI page, just choose your operating system and select a download mirror to download from <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

i read this thread and thought: Maybe in one point i can help you -> how to find out which grafic card you have in your notebook. There's a cool and free software in the net you can download: Everest Home. I only know german links for that, but the language of the software can also be english.
<a href="http://www.zdnet.de/downloads/prg/1/x/de011X-wc.html" target="_blank">http://www.zdnet.de/downloads/prg/1/x/de011X-wc.html</a> (You've to click on "Jetzt herunterladen") or use google to find it!
If you start this software you can read out everything you need to know about your notebook.
How to find your grafic card in the software: <a href="http://community.mbuscher.de/images/screenshot_everest.jpg" target="_blank">Screenshot</a>
Maybe it helps to find out your real grafic card.
BTW: The screenshot is from my notebook on which i can play the game also - but mostly i play it on my desktop-pc because there i've a better resolution and grafic quality.

Great link, Phate and thank you very much. But I think we are past the graphics card problem, he is using a ATI Radeon 200 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
