Recently Bestheda has released Daggerfall as a download their site. You can download it here free and legally:

Getting it working is little trickier though.

Daggerfall, like most Elder Scrolls games, were very ambitious and as a result, a lot of the features were cut out and the games had a lot of bugs.
In Daggerfall there were plans for a prostitutes guild :woot (you can find women in various states of undress in taverns but they interact like normal NPCs), sex, sieges and wars between provinces, high treason (perhaps you could commit regicide? :huh), were wolf quests, the Order of the Lamp... but they all got the axe.

A few projects appeared attempting to mod Daggerfall and make it workable on modern systems with almost modern graphics... Many disappeared.. Dungeon Hack got turned into a open source project which you can download.

Daggerfall XL is a project that is still active today. It aims to get the game working on a modern with modern graphics as well as restoring some of the features that were cut out.

Cool stuff Death, thanks for the info mate! I gave Daggerfall a try when it first came out, but I couldn't get it to run very well on my computer at the time. I had a really crappy AGP video card that hated everything, especially my motherboard! :modding
If I ever get any free time again, I'll have to give it a look!
 
Just a few days ago I reinstalled that game because it suddenly stopped working.. now it seems I'm having much more fun with this game. Currently I'm planning to go into a dungeon where I have to run around with my nude high elf and chop things dead with deadric claymore. xD:
 
The game was really easy if you knew what you were doing.

I remember using the open spell and raiding all the shops in Daggerfall City. If you went to the best shop in the game (Odd Blades in Daggerfall I think,) and sold it at the worst shop (that town called Barbuaryuta in the Ailk'r Desert) you could earn about 100-300k.
