As the title says, my limited work on the <i>Flying Dutchman</i> has been postponed indefinetly. I simply do not have the skills and expierence needed to to her justice. I'm getting ready for my college auditions (I'm trying for Juilliard) and that has put a lot of strees on lately. I'll still check in and I'm alway ready to playtest anything you guys do. a reskin of the war galleon to turn it into the flying dutchman has already been made. i think that you can find a screenshot of it in the dead man's chest topic. it could always use some improving of course.

Morgan Terror is right: There is a Flying Dutchman reskin. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing. But we have got no Davy Jones at all yet... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
 
well, just wait a few years until akella finishes that DMC game then. or maybe until someone figures out how to make him.
 
well, good luck. as for Davy Jones, we'll make due with what we have. and the Flying Dutchman.....ahh the Dutchman....we'll just see what we can do about it...we'll make due with what we have, and hope that either you or Kazeite manage to get her into the final stages of completion...

how come your so sure Akella will deliver as expected? remember that big pile of low quality digital wood they call the Pearl is NOTHING compared to Kazeite's masterpiece!
 
yes, but the original pearl was hasty work to make the game like pirates of the caribbean. i think that the guys from akella never really knew how the pearl looked, except that it was black and had torn black sails. it looks as if it was made from really bad memory. this time, they really have the intention to make a PotC game, so this could turn out pretty well.
 
I haven't heard anything about this new Storm Engine based PotC version, except for one of Maximus' posts. I have heard no official statements whatsoever.

I don't have any 3D software so i couldn't even try to make Davy Jones. I only hope someone decides to make it because the Dead Man's chest quest should be a major feature of Build 14. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
 
Would be nice, yes. But I don't really count on anyone managing. Making a Davy Jones character would be more challenging than anything we've done so far. Nobody ever managed to make new animation files and Davy Jones obviously <i>would</i> require new animation files.
 
what would he need new animation files for? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> i guess walking, because he kinda limps, but you could also, if you can, disable running for that character. it would be a lot easier to fight him that way as well.
 
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> of course. but i'm not aiming that high at the moment, just a fearly realistic davy jones imitation. animations and fine tuning can come later, in my opinion. after all, jack sparrow wasn't immediatly right at the beginning either.

In fact, i think we should forget the "animated tentacles". It would be too difficult or impossible to do it. But, maybe if we choose the corsair3 model (screenshot) someone could only change the colours of the clothes (more greenish) and make the davy jones' head but without the tentacles. I know it would be imperfect but as you said about the davy jones' ship : it's preferable something not perfect than nothing at all.
 
that's the skin i suggested some time ago, because of the leg, but there are two things against using it: he doesn't have a beard (but i think that can be solved be putting the barbossa head on), and more importantly, he's too short! davy jones is a huge guy, somewhat the size of ronald. (there is a skin called ronald. it's the huge boatswain-like guy.)
 
Look in InitModels.c for the lines:

model.height = 2.10;
model.name = "Ronald";

model.height is what makes Ronald so tall. I'm assuming you can do that with any character, although I haven't tried it myself.
