Dedicated Bug Reporting Thread BUILD 12

piratesahoy will get ye in mate <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

`In-deed`, as Commodore Norrington would've said... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

<!--QuoteBegin-NathanKell+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(NathanKell)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Please see the bottom of the big sticky thread for a potential solution.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I tried it again with a clean install of POTC, but it still doesn't work.

Has anyone got a copy of Build 11 that they can upload to the FTP so that I can try that?

If that doesn't work or if no one has got a copy of it then I'm open for other suggestions about what I can try to get it to work.

Failing that I'll have to go through the changes to Build 12 one by one until I can find out what changes(s) are causing this problem.

I need a built 11 too. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I cannot avoid the blackscreen after starting a new game. But if i load a saved game from the clear original version, it runs till i make conversation.
Pressing "i" chrashes the game. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

So i think, for the european versions we need installed built 11, put the built 12 step by step into the game and have to look for functions after each step.

After 2 days without any results i have no better idea. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Even then there is no guarantee that it'll work.

I'm hoping that there is a file that previous Builds had which isn't included in Build 12.
If this doesn’t work then that would mean that this is a coding problem.
In that case it could take us several months to find out what the problem is because all of the people who have contributed to Build 12 are using the US version of the game so they won’t be able to do much to help us to find the cause of the problem.

<b>Sirus_Darke</b>, did ye see Pieter's reply here about gettin' his Build 12 running? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Apparently, installing Build 12 over a previous Build 11 installation worked for him! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I plan on giving that a try if/when someone can point me to where I can find a copy of Build 11.

It's been removed from here and I can't find it on any other POTC/Pirate website and I've searched Google and even a couple of file sharing networks without any success.

Has anyone PM'd Keith about Build 11 being missin', matey? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

Good for him. I still have my problem. Any suggestions?ű

That's the same error log I get Drunken.

Fred_Bob IIRC Keith cleaned up the FTP site and as Build12 was released Build11 would have been the first thing that was deleted.
I'll PM him but if he hasn't got a copy of it somewhere then someone else will have to upload it.

I have a copy of the standard Build 11 install, if you PM me your `e-mail`, I'll send it to you, or I'll put it up on teh FTP . I have a normal version, not a European one... Dunno what my problem is. It JUST DID IT for a long time, stopped, started again, stopped, and again, again, again. Sometimes reinstall helped, but it doesn't anymore. With Build 11.99e, setting the old main menu back helped, but it doesn't now.

I hope somebody solves our problem... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Oh......that looks fine <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Thx a lot

Thanks Fred_Bob.

I tried it and it still doesn't work <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

I'll try it again on a clean installation but it doesn't look good.

It seems that the new Build 12 code is just incompatible with some, if not all, `non-US` versions of POTC.
If that is the case then next weekend I'll try to copy the files over `one-by`-one from Build 12 into a Build 11 patched POTC installation and (if I am very lucky) I'll be able to which file is causing the problem.

I think I have the US version, but I'm not sure... Where can I look? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

OK then, installing Build 11 and then Build 12 is not working.

What I have just tried is installing Build 11 and then just copying everything except the PROGRAM folder from Build 12 into the POTC folder and I do not get the flickering screen and can start a new game.

This mean that somewhere in the PROGRAM folder there is some code that is not compatible with `non-US` version of the game.

Next weekend I'll try to find out which file(s) are causing the problems but due to family commitments and work ATM I only have about 6 hours or so that I can spare.

I've spent a bit of time searching this forum and I notice that some people like Drunken have reported this exact problem on the various unofficial releases of Build 12.

So what I need form the people who contributed to Build 12 is a list of which files they have modified with their mods. Without this I think that it could take me several months to locate the problem, thats assuming that I am able to find the cause.

Again I suggest that until we can work out exactly what the cause of the problem is that some one edits the Build 12 release post so that other people who have a `non-US` version of the game do not install Build 12.
Otherwise you will have quite a few people posting that their game no longer works with Build 12 installed.

Sirus, i tried the same and it`s running now.

1. New install of PotC

2. grabbed <a href="http://www.myhostingplan.net/piratesahoy/build/packages/`build11-standard`.exe" target="_blank">http://www.myhostingplan.net/piratesahoy/b...andard`.exe</a> and patched with marking built 11 <b><u>and</u></b> european version <b><u>and</u></b> localized

3. testet patched PotC - was running

4. patched now with built 12, marked built12 <b><u>and</u></b> european version - and is running now.

I hope it is useful for you.

Drunken:
I think for identifying your version look into resourcetextureloading. If there are only english files, i suppose `us-version`.

If there are folders named german, english, french and spanish, it's the european version, this one i have.

My thanks to NK and all other people for your help <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

{I `re-upped` b11 to the FTP, just in case}

This is gettin' weirder by the minute.

If someone with a european version would be so kind as to:
Start a command prompt
change to POTC folder
type:
dir /s > list.txt
and press enter.

Then email me the list.txt file, I can compare it with my install to see what's different.

Also, if someone could email me the Euro Engine.exe and modules folder, I'd be much obliged.

In fact what I'd really like is if someone with a working Euro install could email me those files; and _also_ you Sirus_Darke, because the same steps (!) aren't working for you.

*Really* sorry about this folks... :

That's exactly what I did Buccanero but it didn't work for me.

It seems that Build 12 will work for some people who are running a `non-US` version but not for others.

I appreciate any other suggestions that people can make otherwise my copy of POTC will just have to gather dust until Build 13 or the PMT expansion is released.
