Disabled features?

I think we have a failiure to communicate here :p

1. I have stock version, and not too keen on the builds

2. I want to enable features that have been turned off by Bethseda or whoever.

for example, the man o wars had been turned OFF from encounters, ive turned them ON.

i want to know if there are other features that can be switched with a True or false value, or somehow with a few lines of code become enabled.

I think the other "disabled" things where only half-finished, so our modders had to do some work on it to get it working. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> So, to get more features, there is a very slim chance you might have to install some mods. And most of the old mods fade away when the new ones come. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

EDIT: I think Fred Bob and Catalina keeps a pretty good archive of the old stuff, so ask them. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> Sorry, Mark... I wasn't thinking. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I think the only way you're going to get what was "off" in the standard stock version of PotC is to get the Build, then shut off whatever you don't want.

"Off" is a misnomer, actually. It is as Rico says, not so much that the quests or other features were turned off in the stock game, as that they were unfinished, abandoned, and never cleaned out of the code. Modders resurrected them piecemeal as we discovered more and more of these snippets when we dug through the code.

Fred Bob MIGHT have some Build that is older than 10.1, I think that's the oldest one I have.

There is a lot that was done between 10.1 and 12.1, however. You will miss SO MUCH by not having it all.

Currently I'm working on a fix for the Animists quest that will be in B13. It's not something that will be able to be dropped into a stock copy of PotC, I built it off of B12 - so to get the Animists quest to work properly and without confusion, you WILL need to have B12.

This is a progressive mod, after all. We don't mod for the stock game, we mod on top of the previous builds.

now im kinda breaking in the Build 12, but is there a way i can turn off the ehanced waves and cannon smoke effects?

Not sure, but I think someone should be along soon who can explain it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Does somebody still have HellAngel's AllMods compiliation? (It may even be on the FTP or files area...)
Anyhow, that's a one-by-one install of a lot of pre-build or early-build-era mods, and you can install them (via Viper's Patchutil) right on top of stock POTC without installing anything else.

Btw is it just me that thinks character selecting might be able to be enabled in the future with some scripting?

i found selectCharacter.ini

<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->;

If that isnt the character select screen then im a shark.
alltho the problem with enabeling would be major scripting needed for the main quest to fit the character.

Character selecting was originally enabled, and I think it was re-enabled in one of the mods Hellangel's All pack included. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

In Seadogs.c there are a couple of different versions for the main function, and I think I saw something about character selection, too.

<b>Merciless Mark</b>, this modpack is <i>extremely</i> old, so as I said, there is a slim chance one of us may still have it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I tried Googling, but I could only find posts from the old PA forum. Interesting, I've seen <i>Google.com</i> browsing the forums, but it still hasn't updated it's links?

Trying to upload to the FTP as we speak (turns out I did have it after all). Called AllVersion1.4.rar

The downside of select character is that it changes the player character's ID, breaking a lot of quests.

yeah but one can always just live as a pirate and go plundering left and right <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

cool! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> where is it?

If you don't know how to get in, look at the sticky in the <i>POTC Modding</i> forum. The first few posts there after Keith's answer the questions you might still have. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

ah thanks, downloading now <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
