Does anyone know the name of this game? - Solved(taipan)

First of all it is an Amiga or a c64 game(can't remember which)

When the game start you are in a city trying to recruit a crew for your ship. One way of recruiting is to knock down drunks. Doing this could get you in trouble. Another way to get in trouble is to get drunk yourself since other people might knock you down and drag you to their ship instead. Pretty sure it was game over if that happend <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

Another faint memory is that when trying to take over other ships at sea you controll a small guy from a birds view running around on the enemy ship(similar to raiding palace in lords of the rising sun).

Been scrathing my head for days trying to figure out the name of this game and if someone could save me from getting bald it would be much appreciated <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I dont think ive ever played a pirate game where you knock potetial crew out..

When were you playing this game was it recent or a while ago?
 
None of the suggestions so faar makes any bells go off...
A while ago is an understatement... I'd think it came out about the same time as pirates... whether it was on c64 or amiga I simply cant remember but I bet it was at least 15 years ago. And it most certainly wasn't on pc or something I dreamed up myself <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Another thing I remember about the forcefull recruiting part was that you could tell if people were drunk or not by the way they walked.

It sounds like the C64 game Taipan. If it also contained some weird oriental gambling, the biggest ship you could get was a four gun friggate and it had a really cool battle system where you had to aim each individual cannon as the enemy ship sailed by, it is probably Taipan.

In order to get the game up and running you'll also need an c64 emulator (or an actual c64/c128 with a 5.25" diskdrive). I used <a href="http://www.viceteam.org" target="_blank"><u>VICE</u></a> which is supposed to be the best and easiest to use...

`Tai-Pan` is the reason why I looked into this game and the first thing after registering here I searched these forums in order to figure out how much `Tai-Pan` has influenced the design of Pirates!, but I only found this thread.

I hope the open endedness, adventure, trade and combat are all present in Pirates!, since what I enjoyed most was dodging enemy ships while trading goods between the coastal cities of `South-East` Asia. I also enjoyed the fact that you couldn't sail against the wind, or even perpendicular to it due to ship design, and that you needed to purchase a map and telescope to get most of out sailing. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />
