Donating money to the church

I've rewritten the code to donate money to the church. The math is almost identical, but the code has been simplified and a few bugs removed.

One nice thing that comes out of it is that I can tell you exactly how much it will take to raise your reputation from the lowest to the highest at any character level. Here are some numbers for your amusement. These aren't exactly what you'll get in the current game (because of bugs those numbers cannot be calculated exactly), but they're close.

Cost for raising a character from the lowest rep (1) to the highest (89)
Cost for level 10 is 7,233,500
Cost for level 20 is 17,871,000
Cost for level 30 is 29,785,000
Cost for level 40 is 42,550,000
Cost for level 50 is 56,166,000

To get from the lowest rep to neutral, cut that number in half. Keep in mind that changes at the lowest level or highest level are much more expensive than changes near the middle.

I'll be sending this code to Pieter.

Excellent! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

If there hadn't been bugs in the original code, the numbers should have been:

Cost for level 10 is 6,961,500
Cost for level 20 is 17,199,000
Cost for level 30 is 28,665,000
Cost for level 40 is 40,950,000
Cost for level 50 is 54,054,000

After correcting the bugs, my final version produces the following numbers:

Cost for level 10 is 7,131,500
Cost for level 20 is 17,619,000
Cost for level 30 is 29,365,000
Cost for level 40 is 41,950,000
Cost for level 50 is 55,374,000

This is the version I'm sending to Pieter.

Isn´t it too much expensive? I am at 30 level Bloody Terror and my money is about 6 mil gold. I would devide all your payments by 4 and by my taste it would be reasonable. But better think would be don´t be compelled to use this at all. So, for 30 level from the worst reputation to neutral it would be about 3,75 mil gold which seems to me quite adequate. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

They sound pretty reasonable to me, getting your rep down to a 1 takes a lot of doing and you don't necessarily need to boost your rep to Hero, you can just get it up enough so that people will talk to you.

It's *supposed* to be expensive! If it were cheap, then everyone would go around doing all sorts of bad things, knowing that they'd just have to give a few coins to the church to make it all right again.

This is one of the things you can do with all that excess money it's so easy to make in the game. So easy that people have been trying to limit it in many ways. "OH NO, I made a million in 4 hours! The game is ruined for me!" Yeah right... just TRY to get your reputation up with only a million. You can see from the numbers above just how far that will take you.

Another thing to do with excess money is to divide the loot. Check your fame before and after. Dividing the loot does wonders for your fame. Every time you get over a million, go see the loanshark.

And quit complaining about how easy it is to make money.

I myself have never ever donated any money to the church!!
.....and I've been playing this game for a long time!
If something doen't go the way I not like or goes wrong,
there is allways the option of NEW GAME!!!
Don't you just love it!!!!!!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

I used to restart from a saved game when things went wrong, but lately I've just been playing through it to see what happens.

I had a character lose a lot of reputation, probably from hitting a friendly ship (chainshot fires high in my game, so I have to be careful there's not a friendly ship behind the one I'm firing at), but I ignored it and played on. Reputation got up to swindler in no time, and last time I looked was back to normal... without me doing anything specific to get the reputation up.

I was testing something tonight with a new character, hadn't left Oxbay yet, and got killed in a dungeon. Ended up in Greenford, and by the time he got back to Oxbay he had more money than before, just fighting bandits in the jungle.

Of course, if you get killed during a boarding, there's no resurrection, so you have to go back to a saved game. Anything else, hey, go with it. It makes the game more fun.
