Enemy ships not damaging me!

It seems that the enemy can not damage my ships regardless of difficulty, something's wrong...

On adventurer difficulty I defeated a large frigate with a merchantman.... the frigate hit me many times and didn't do a single bit of damage to me, but my guns tore him up...

what's going on?

I dunno they damage me all the time. With chain, round and grape. You sure he was hitting you?
